Why oh why oh why do non technical people think they can make technical decisions?

Every single bloody day I have to deal with some wit (usually the same one) who has absolutely no idea what a computer looks like let alone who it works who needs to see the technical reasons explained to them, which they have no capability in the slightest to grasp before they can make a simple decision.

Why is it always about what it costs today? I can give you two solutions, one will cost 6 figures and will take almost 3 years to ROI, one costs 7 figures but the ROI is 4 months. Why on gods green earth do you need technical information to make that decision when each solution is i dentical technically!

I am desperately trying to find a way out. I've been doing this far too long for my own health and sanity.

Whilst there was money in it its was alright but this amount of stupidity on a daily basis without the proper reward is stretching it a bit.

I report to the Financial Director, who was trouble truening his laptop on most days.

I have to explain to him in intricate detail what needs to be done and how. He get's bored and changes the subject, I get no budget. My blood boils. Repeat to fade...

Dilbert had the right idea - give the boss an Etch A Sketch & then teach him the "shake to re-boot" procedure.
