The wife is off to a conference in Boston soon. I'm going to join her at the end and spend a few days in Boston before moving on to New York.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I've read about the Imperial Museum and fancy going there to see the SR71. Other than that I don't know.

Thanks

CVP

if you're thinking SR71 in New York you mean the USS Intrepid.

How long are you in NYC?

Obvious suggestions
1. View from Top of the Rock (Rockerfeller Center). I prefer this to Empire state as you get to see the Empire State and Central Park
2. Decent bar in the Rockerfeller Center, the rainbow Room is nice for cocktails before dinner
3. Otherwise for cocktails, the Campbell Apartment in Grand central Terminal is fun. it's a very old school place that cunningly used to be an apartment owned by Mr Campbell. Hostesses dressed in little black dresses and pearls, very Breakfast at Tiffanys
4. Touristy but useful is one of the open top bus tours to get your bearings in Manhattan
5. Take the subway over to Brooklyn and get off at High Street station (think A and C lines) and then walk back into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge
6. If loaded dinner at Jean-Georges in the Trump building at Columbus Circle, or Daniel is also veyr very good but it's an arm and a leg cost-wise
7. If not so loaded try the Prix Fixe lunch at Jean-Georges - NYC's best bargain for posh eating I think
8. USS Intrepid
9. Staten Island ferry goes past the Statue of Liberty and is free. You'll get a good view of NY harbour and all the traffic in it
10. Helicopter rides around the city are very good. Recommend taking the ones taking off from the Southern tip of Manhattan
11. Metroplotan Museum of Art and MoMo are generally very good
12. Greenwich Village, just browse around. Lots of little independant cafes and bistos
13. Mooch around Central Park, probably avoid a row around on the lake

Things i'd give a miss
1. Canal Street for fake watches etc - it's really a bit crap
2. Chinatown & Little Italy in general. The Chinese and Italian communities have deserted these areas now and it's really tourists only

Honestly there is enough in NYC to keep you coming back time and time again.
