I can post pictures from Fotango no problem, but I cannot link to photos on my own webspace when I preview before posting all I get is the red crosses you see below.

Here is the format of each one (with spaces after the ] and before [/ so that the text shows. What am I doing wrong?

[pic] www.final-design.com/htdocs/.mark2.jpg [/pic]
[pic] www.final-design.com/htdocs/misc/adjuster.jpg [/pic]
[pic] www.final-design.com/1.mark2.jpg [/pic]

The website works OK so I know that bit is Ok, and I have to store all my files in HTDOCS directory but as can be seen it doesn't matter where I put the files or how I try to link to them it never works.

Also clicking on the top 2 give me a 'page not found' error, although if I go through IE I can see them.

Take out the htdocs bit though for the links

The links work but the I see no reason why the display versions shouldn't, is it your webspace provider not allowing hotlinking of pics to other sites?

In which case it should

Baffling, with probably an easy answer that I can't see. I'll move this to Computing & Stuff too.

You NEED the http://

even tho the Help doesnt say so

And you need to speak to your host to get them to tell you where your files are

Jamie,
They already do have the http:// in there although when I type in the bottom of the note as an example for some reason it doesn't display them.

Jamie, right click one of the red crosses and paste the URL into an address line on a broswer - hey presto the pic is there and viewable.

Now paste it in a PH posting with the corect "pic/pic" at the begining & end and it doesn't appear.

very odd.

not for me it doesnt.

Either you have it cached... or its using some form of mod_rewrite / aliasing / framed forwarding.

When you stick it in the browser direct, it will function as desired (tho for me, www.final-design.com/htdocs/.mark2.jpg doesnt give me owt cept an error!) but when you try and get a program to grab an image thru it, it wont work.

Like...

http://murcielago.co.uk/brokenlambo.jpg

works

but

doesnt.

Thats the magic of t'internet

I would place money on the apache server at the other end having some config issues with the Virtual Host / htaccess setup.

Still it will all be resolved as soon as he contacts his hosts support.

bit more..

seems the nameservers for your domain, are up.. but

heres where it gets psuedo complex

Your Nameservers said:

Domain Name: FINAL-DESIGN.COM
Registrar: SCHLUND+PARTNER AG
Whois Server: whois.schlund.info
Referral URL: http://registrar.schlund.info
Name Server: NS23.SCHLUND.DE
Name Server: NS24.SCHLUND.DE

Now, ns23 and ns24.schlund.de Dont resolve.

Your Nameservers said:

root@mook:~> host ns23.schlund.de
Host not found, try again.
root@mook:~> host ns24.schlund.de
Host not found, try again.

So, we dig deeper.

checkout schlund.de

schlunde.de said:

domain: schlund.de
descr: Schlund+Partner AG
descr: Brauerstr. 48
descr: D-76135 Karlsruhe
descr: Germany
nserver: nsa.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
nserver: nsa2.schlund.de 212.227.123.18
status: connect
changed: 20030505 165938
source: DENIC

So, we look up schlund.de's nameservers
nserver: nsa.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
nserver: nsa2.schlund.de 212.227.123.18

Their Nameservers said:

root@mook:~> host nsa2.schlund.de
Host not found, try again.
root@mook:~> host nsa.schlund.de
Host not found, try again.

So now we see actually that their domain schlund.de isnt working, and as its nameserverd by its own nameservers they in turn arent working.

Typically this is where a gluerecord comes into play.

Glue Records said:

% No entries found for the selected source: "nsa2.schlund.de"

where as mine for example

Server Name: NS0.REGISTER1.NET
IP Address: 80.253.109.2
Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: www.opensrs.org

so, now we try and see what happens if we use the cached ips for their nameservers.

nserver: nsa.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
nserver: nsa2.schlund.de 212.227.123.18

and now it works.. so the DNS is up, just their DNS is borked.

The Mist Rises said:

root@mook:~> host ns24.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
Using domain server 195.20.224.98:
ns24.schlund.de has address 212.227.123.17
root@mook:~> host ns23.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
Using domain server 195.20.224.98:
ns23.schlund.de has address 195.20.224.104

So, now we try your domian again using your domains Nameservers IP.

Getting Close now said:

root@mook:~> host ns24.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
Using domain server 195.20.224.98:
ns24.schlund.de has address 212.227.123.17
root@mook:~> host ns23.schlund.de 195.20.224.98
Using domain server 195.20.224.98:
ns23.schlund.de has address 195.20.224.104
root@mook:~> host final-design.com 195.20.224.104
Using domain server 195.20.224.104:
final-design.com has address 212.227.127.197
final-design.com mail is handled (pri=10) by mx01.schlund.de
final-design.com mail is handled (pri=10) by mx00.schlund.de
root@mook:~> host final-design.com 212.227.123.17
Using domain server 212.227.123.17:
final-design.com has address 212.227.127.197
final-design.com mail is handled (pri=10) by mx00.schlund.de
final-design.com mail is handled (pri=10) by mx01.schlund.de
root@mook:~>

So, its all up and running, and your ip is 212.227.127.197

http://212.227.127.197

but it seems your on shared hosting...

but at least its up.

So, you need to wait for your host to fix its own hosting before it will work.

Once it does, we can get this thread back on topic for working out if your images still work

Enjoy.

I'm sure I just read all that, and I'm sure most of it was in English, but I'm if I understood 1 solitary word of it!

ok,

in the time it took me to type that, they have fixed their DNS,

If i use a virgin DNS server now (not one with a cached entry) i can see the following

Lets Test.

ok,

its simply cos your on framed forwarding hosting, and you need to use http://domain463572.sites.inetproducts.com/ to reference it.

Now, check out the image
