Have you seen Autocar?

Title apart...what a fantastic experience and article.
I cannot imagine the looks on peoples faces as they saw not 1-2...but 5 Gallardos fly past. Great looking car & write up of driving impressions,i am definitely more enthused about the baby Lambo than I was previously. Looking forward to Chris Harris' running reports when his arrives.

Has anyone stumping up large wedges (let's say 6 figures) ever admitted they made a bad mistake? Especially anyone who doesn't have peculiarly large sums of money to burn?
Maybe I'm just too cynical, but there you go.
Will see one in the flesh before I make my final judgement, but the wing mirrors look horrible and the best picture of the cars in the article, IMO, were the ones where wide angle was causing distortion. Again IMO.
Oh yes, and the arse looks like a new MR2.

isnt it always the same with new exotica though.
Glowing reports by the press and then a ftera year or so, a new road test stating how much much better the latest model is in relation to the previus one.
On thing for sure, the styling at the back especially is unresolved for sure. If the merci is anything to go by be interesting to see residuals after 18 months!

Sod the looks, it all depends on how it drives.
I just hope not too much Audi DNA has leaked in?
If you had driven my RS6 you wouldnt say that!
Having driven a few RS6's I would hope the Gallardo drives absolutely nowt like it, yes its a bloody fast automatic execmobile, but a tactile and alive driving experience it is very much not.

I hope the RS6 doesn't drive like a TT .....
Steve
I was at LL on Tuesday - I think the G looks great in the flesh - and look forward to driving it on Saturday.
The interior worked for me - it just made sense - I would liken it to the difference between a 6.0 Diablo and a 98 SV, or a 98 SV and a 91 Diablo (with the Bell Jet Ranger dash board)........
Having spoken to Valentino B, I understand that, in his opinion (which, lets face it - is Lamborghini) this is the best chassis that Lamborghin have made. Blimey. Praise indeed.
Regarding spending big ones and making mistakes - I've made a few - a new E46 Ms SMG (this year) and a new F355 Spider F1 (in Jan 2000) - (it was the Gearbox on the 355 - just hideous) and the M3 was too dull....
Hee hee hee!!!

Saw a Gallardo today, LHD one with plate BOSS 55 at the NCP near my apartment in Bayswater. Always a 360 in black there too, again LHD.
It actually looked a lot better than I remembered, and the interior looks quite cosy, if somewhat small from the outside. Still looks a bit boring (the interior).
Black really does suit this car. I still think the back looks terrible, front isn't as bad as I first thought, side angles look good.

I have just done a back to back test with the Gallardo and the Murci with Chris Harris from Autocar. He's a nice and knowledgable chap - and I reckon he'll do Lamborghini a world of good as an owner, as someone who can drive and is clearly obsessed by cars.
I have to say that, personally, I preferred the Murci - especially with the sports exhaust - hee hee hee. But that's just me - and I like doors that reach for the sky. BUT......
The Gallardo IS a great car. Ferrari should be (and I suspect are) very worried.
I think that the Gallardo's is exactly the car that Lamborghini should have made - the induction roar when you nail it above 4K is fab - and a very unique noise.
Worry not about being Audified - the Gallardo is incredibly usable - and will, I suspect increase the numbers sold, which in turn will benefit Lamborghini - and therefore us. The interior is well made - and yes, there are Audi bits - but just see what happens when you turn the engine on......
I would also positively encourage anybody who is not sure about the Gallardo to drive it (I drove the manual version) - you WILL cancel your (standard) 360 order. It's quicker, handles MUCH better, the gearchange is a joy, all of the tactile bits are right, with maybe a slight lack of steering feedback compared to a 911 GT3 RS - but hey - would blow a 911 turbo/360 et al. away.
When they do an SV version, this awesome package will get even better.
