M5 - Got a puncture - and no spare - what to do

Hi Guys.
I got a big nail stuffed into my nearly new Eagle F1 today. No worries I thought, I was only a mile from a tyre fitters so I unloaded my can of tyre weld into the flatty. It did exactly what it said and repaired the tyre enough to be babied to the fitters.
Once off it became apparant that in the 150 meters or so it took me to find a safe stopping place I have destroyed the inside of the sidewall by driving slowly on a flat. Thus the brand new F1 is ruined. Hey ho, such is life.
Now, all my local suppliers are out of F1 275/35/18's so I have a different make on there until I can get one.
Bearing in mind the tyres were nearly new and the tread is about 7.5mm remaining, what is the tolerances for rear tyres? I know I will be OK but I thought it was if rears, with our LSD's are any more than 2mm in tread difference you had to replace them in paris, correct?
Secondly, Im thinking of buying a cheap BMW wheel to keep in the boot as a spare. If I were in the middle of Europe I would have been totally stuffed!
Does anyone know the size and offset that will fit and be compatible with our cars ? ?

I understand that deploying the tyre foam rules out any chances of being able to repair the tyre I'm afraid. If you manage to get into a tyre place without it (slow puncture) as long as the offending hole is in the centre of the tread it can generally be repaired. Generally I've been fairly lucky and only picked them up when the tyres are best part done for and in fairness I don't think I would find much comfort in a kwick fit repaired tyre when stretching it's legs!

Yes I was told the same as you. As long as the hole isn't on the inner or outer edge it can be repaired.
Nothing was mentioned about the tyreweld making a repair impossible. The were going to wash it out and put the plug repair in. It was only when they removed the tyre and saw the shavings from the sidewall, eroded by the rim did they mention there was a problem.
I felt the same as you about repairs. However, I had one done and did countless top speed runs without issue. The plug is coated with an agent that melts the rubber slightly, effectivley creating a seamless join.

Not sure what size the wheel well of an M5 is, but my B10 has a front full size spare & it's a 19", so subject there being nothing else in there I guess you'd be OK. I'm running my old M3 on the spare at the back, which is a front in size terms & it feels OK in the dry.

Hi Dave. Yes that would probably be ideal. I was wondering if it would fit over the brakes.
What width etc would I need for correct rolling rotations etc?
hi neil i don't know where you are but if you local to me i have an m5 f1 you can have i think its about 4-5mm tread on it, no damage, its just a good one left over from when i had 2 new rears put on. all it will cost you is a run up the road in your car, you driving obviously, so i can compare mine.

Hi,a very kind offer but the tyres are nealry new so I think a part worn one with a new one would be outside the tolerances for an LSD, but thanks.
