I've a complete 2.8 engine - block/head/plenum (from an XR4x4) going should anyone want it !?. Ideal as a spare/for a rebuild for an early s. Engine was a runner before coming out of the Sierra. Be a waste to let it go to the scrap man, so if anyone want's to come and take it away (in Berks).... it's yours ! Drop me a mail if interested.

It might also be worth a post on the Wedge forum if you can't shift it, as the 2.8i is in some wedges.

Not sure which way round you mean but the S1 has the 2.8 engine, and early xr4x4 sierras had a 2.8, later changing to the 2.9 but I don't know when the sierra changed, I guess around 1990.

Didn't realise 2.8 carried on from capri's into the Sierra, but you're absolutely right, it did !

and it carried over into the jelly mould shape granadas - again early ones were 2.8 then later they switched to 2.9

Don't suppose that you got the gearbox with the 2.9 engine did youhttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gif? I'm struggling to get a speedo drive gear for my S2. Ford have discontinued it and someone fitted a recon box to my car with the wrong gear http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/7.gif. Now my speedo reads under by 15%, not good and trying to fix it is driving me mad.

No, just the engine, not even flywheel and clutch but there is what appears to be a speedo drive one one of the front drive shafts ?

The driven gear is a light blue colour, only mention this because I believe different colours were used for different ratios to save trying to count number of teeth ?

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

I don't suppose that you could take the plastic drive gear out and put up a photo of the top (output) end of it could you? I've seen a mechanical drive gear at my local Ford dealer and know what mine looks like, so could tell from such photo which one you've got.
Mine is Red, but I don't know what colour one is right as I've never seen one. Any one that isn't red stands a chance.

Thanks for that really appreciated smile. I've sent you out an e-mail with my details. Plastic bit might work, but I don't recognise the aluminium part at all.
