New bathroom started today...
Discussion
Hello folks, some of you may have been witness to my various home building projects over the last couple of years. These have included my new kitchen conversion: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-diy/693...
My home cinema: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-diy/383...
And most recently my new rear deck: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Deck started today
Well today we start on the smallest room in the house, one of our two bathrooms. This room is currently so bad I feel depressed every time I walk into it. But hopefully over the next couple of weeks this rather sad little room will be transformed phoenix like into a place that I want to spend time in.
For what is such a small room I can’t believe how quickly the costs mount up or how complicated it is to get the design right.
Again like our kitchen the bathroom is going to have a very simple look. Original ideas for a wall hung toilet and taps, and shower jets have been dropped for cost and practicality reasons.
I will keep you updated on progress. Here are a couple of pics as it is at the moment

out of interest, what were the practicality reasons for not doing the wall hung toilet?(appoligies if your picts explain all but i cannot access them at work, only text)
No problems. The room is very small and a wall hung toilet would have required some boxing to be built to house the cistern and this would havee been difficult to intergrate into the room sucessfully.just been looking through your other threads impressive stuff - are you going to move once its all finished?!
with all the lights you seem to have everywhere can you help my question?!

We dont intend to move just yet, its a nice family house and we are just getting it the way we like it. If I was going to sell it right away I would not have spent so much.
Our next move will be to a self build project on a 3 acre plot we have in Catterham on the Hill in Surrey. But due to the radical nature of the plans for that plot we are going to be in planning hell for the next few years.

As for your lights I have answered on your thread
Just finished mine this weekend gone, with the help of two cousins, one a plumber and one a tiler
cost about €3500 all in in the end, for a little bathroom, 2 metres by 2.5 changing all the pipework and greenboarding the walls before tiling, but loads less than getting a proper firm in to do it
it's unreal the prices all the little bits can be
taps at up to a couple of hundred quid, towel hangers at 80 quid - that's not ridiculous gold plated stuff, just normal-ish

Its great that you were able to do it yourself. My labour costs are £2950. I am normally very hands on but I have never done plumbing before so I have left it to the experts. And as the bathroom it is so small the fit and finish are going to have to be excellent, also as a guaranteed extra the worked is backed by "God" cost about €3500 all in in the end, for a little bathroom, 2 metres by 2.5 changing all the pipework and greenboarding the walls before tiling, but loads less than getting a proper firm in to do it

I've never done it either, but the actual joining up of pipes and taps and stuff is a doddle, a kid could do it (although as I said, my cousin was doing it with me, and he is actually a plumber)
we got these copper push-fit fittings - cut the pipe to length, use this pencil sharpener thing on the end, and just shove it in
hardest job was getting all the old stuff out
the tiling was solely the other cousin's job, i just mixed the adhesive and humped stuff around, cut a few tiles etc
ours looked similar to yours, but without the shower cubicle. we have a wall mounted shower in the bath with a big 'rain' head and a seperate 'normal' one

Always like your projects.... our new carpet arrives tomorrow morning which should finish off our lounge/stairs and landing.
All that leaves is for me to box in a couple of pipes in the kitchen and put a laminate floor in the porch.
Will be nice to be finished(ish). I'll put up some before and afters tomorrow afternoon.
Next job the garden

Grohe do a very nice shallow cistern only about 15cm deep. Then cut off the backs of the vanitory (not vanity) units so they're as shallow as possble. If the unit extends at the sides, you also get a useful cupboard for bog rolls, cleaning fluid etc. We've just installed these in our daughter's en-suite - are ideal for a restricted space (white floor tiles have gone now)

We would like to have gone wall hung too, but it would have meant cistern would have been "in" next bedroom, so decided against it. This shallow one takes up very little depth anyway
