BUG: Quoting a username with punctuation breaks quoting

Long standing bug from the pre-Haymarket days, so I don't know if it is on the official bug list.

PH allows a user to create usernames that break the quoting mechanism.

eg: (and this will be messy)

User said:

blah

[quote=User?]blah

[quote=User&]blah

User* said:

blah

Is it worth having a bug wiki as some sort of tracker? Might be easier than all these posts?

Setting up a Bugzilla / JIRA / <insert name of favourite issue tracking software here> and allowing interested PHers (like me) access to it would be pretty cool too.

This bug (the quote thing) is part of our redesign of the parser across the website and nearly done bar a bit of tweaking, so hopefully will have this sorted early July (major project for end of the month is causing a delay on all other projects and bug fixing)

As for the bugzilla type software - this is a good idea and we do have software we use internally for this. I think it would be best to have a group of dedicated PH'ers who are interested in this so they can add and view PH bugs (for various reasons than having it open to the whole world) - I will investigate our current software to see if it can work for this, or setup something else.

So who wants to be a bug finder/reviewer?

Oh, for sure. Otherwise you're goign to get 'the usual crowd' raising all sorts of 'joke' bugs for you.

I didn't till just then, Will is a bit LIFO sometimes

We have had a redesign project on the go since Christmas (it is a very long process), but I will pass on (and take your ideas) to the design meetings... We have very recently sped this process up and are currently working through PH.TV and Classifieds. We haven't tackled the homepage yet in the latest phase (though have a pre-lim phase which looks not dissimilar to your design) so will make sure the other designers see your ideas

Did anything ever happen with this?

I've replaced Bugzilla with Jira in the firm I work for.

We have the Enterprise edition which is far too many users for what you would need but I've noticed that you can get 10 Jira licences for $10 and all proceeds go to charity. (You could always have a couple of people sharing a log in, although only one user can be logged in at a time).

Just an idea.

I'd be happy to start getting involved with raising and tracking issues on PH if needed or just giving some general advice on the best way to set Jira up.

Thank you for the offer, we use a bug system at the moment but is not open to the outside world, so not something we can share.

We only have one dedicated developer on PistonHeads (and they can spend their time doing admin and a bit of PH IT Support too) so things can backup on the dev and bug list, so if we maintained a list it would only aid people spotting if something has been requested before and not necessarily fix the issues quicker.

I am though looking at how we take PistonHeads forward into the future and whether we should look at an open source-ish method to the PH forums so members can help out on improving the site (though I bet as we aren't a non-profit organisation that could be seen as taking advantage). But over the next 6 months we may take you up on the offer as we evolve PH.
