Hi,
Just published our website for the import service. I would value your comments. I am interested to know if it is clear what we are trying to do and if anyone has any constructive criticism... please let me have it!

First advert comes out in Classic American this week!!
Please don't be too harsh. As those of you who know me will verify, I am a sensitive soul?!?!!?
Seriously though, your opinions would be very welcome

It's a very good, very clear site.
My only niggling concerns are that I get my deliveries via UPS within a week and this will inevitably delay it.
Secondly, whilst most US freight tends to be free within the US, the UK delivery charge may negate the saving over a direct delivery via UPS.
Thirdly, what if you only get one order on a particular week? The savings would then seem to evaporate and possibly be more expensive unless you can guarantee a significant number of orders but maybe I underestimate the demand.
One thing I note where a saving is guaranteed is replica wheels (eg Z06 wheels)and I wish I'd known this a month ago. On ebay, a replica wheel company sells sets of wheels at $500 under list but won't send them outside the US. This system would guarantee a $500 saving before you started. Rats!

Thanks for your post.
Without trying to sell you anything:
The delay should be nominal as the console flies each week. Parts ordered Monday would be in the UK the following Monday. Also, we can move quicker if needs be. Subjct to demand, we may run more than one console a week.
The Uk delivery charges are also nominal. We will utilise a mainstream carrier for areas that we don't cover on our own vehicles. It still should be significantly cheaper, especially once you get over 10 kilos.
The console flies every week and prices charged will be the same regardless of how many shipments we have. It is based upon the Easyjet logic. A volume game. We need as many shipments as possible for the system to make money but we are able to keep the cost down to the customer by including other business that we have in the console.
I guess that the proof of the pudding etc. However, apart from the savings, I feel that it is the added value stuff which will make people want to deal with us.
Again, my thanks for your thoughts.
Steve

Hi Ducky,
Looks good (but the page width could be slightly narrower).
I have a question on your shipping service. Can you cater for stuff shipped through as a genuine gift? If so, have you a FedEx account at the US end? The reason I ask is that a guy wants to ship me something, but he wants to FedEx it to me which apparently involves me setting up an account, etc. Seems pointless for just one shipment, so if you've got an account then he could FedEx it to your US end so that you could ship it to me That way, I'd be giving you my hard earned pennies rather than FedEx which would make me a lot happier (look, you did tell me months ago that shipping via you would cost pennies ).
Good luck with the venture,
Paul

Very interesting! Some rough cost workings would be useful.
I have got shipping quotes for a lightbar (for a cop car) that is $300 and UPS/FedEx quote $250+ for shipping and even the Airfreight services charge $150, *excluding* the Heathrow brokerage charges which are the killer.
The size is just a little too large for USPS surface mail service!
I also need a large piece of dashboard for my car - again the volumetric restrictions make it quite pricey to ship but it if could be tossed into a larger container at a worthwhile saving I would be very interested and not bothered about the extra delay.
I think the most important thing would be that people could talk generally about having a shipment and then be able to take away a reference number so that when they do a deal (eg. with a junkyard) they can arrange shipping right away and *then* come back to you and say "ok, I've got a package on it's way".

Sounds great, seems to solve a problem. Tho I am in the USA, it occured to me that this problem puts US cars at a disadvantage in Europe?
Have you thought about offering the service going the other way for people in the US that have European cars? I used to struggle getting getting certain parts when I had my old Jags. Tho I think , for example, that Jag has a larger presence in the US than Corvette has in Europe, in some parts, especially special and aftermarket parts was still a problem.
Just a thought.
In addition, what do you charge? And is the savings a result of your being able to combine shipments in order to lower the individual costs?

I decided to take advantage of the exchange rate (Now 1.82!) and ordered a full set of sports rotors, calipers, pads etc. Mr The Brave and his team did a superb job in getting it to me from VBP over the holiday period. Best and cheapest legal way of importing with the added benefit of being hassle free.
Thanks Steve.
Now where's that crate engine catalogue?
