engine oil presseure light
Discussion
If the pressure guage is showing normal, there is plenty of oil in the engine and the engine isnt rattling like a good one, i would suspect the Oil pressure switch has failed. That happened on my old rangey and scared the hell out of me. Change the Switch and hopefully the light should go off.
Although if you drive to the shop at 6000rpm and the engine blows up due to low oil pressure, then i was wrong <VBG>
Good Luck

Had exactly this happening to my Cerbie once, had to drive back 400 miles from Holland with the pressure light always on (but the gauge OK) and very sweaty palms. Turned out the switch was indeed gone, I'm not sure if it's the same in a chimaera but I do remember the dealer telling me it was a Rover part.
Mind you, it is of course also possible the gauge is broken although I was told that's a lot less probable.
Is the light yellow or red, as I had the same problem I checked the handbook and this told me the that the oil warning light is the red one at the bottom ( which was coming on ) I replaced the oil pressure swith but the light still came on ( the oil pressure was also ok).
On further investigation i.e tracing wires etc I found that the oil pressure light is the yellow one in the middle and the red one which came on was the alternator light, for which I had to buy a new alternator.
Hope this helps
Brian
Would it be really obvious to say "check the dipstick" !!!!!!! because if you do have low pressure wouldn't you be burning or losing oil which can be spotted by looking at it - or am I missing something.
