Exige cutting out...fuel pump?

In outer lane of motorway today when suddenly the revs dropped to 4k, accelerator pedal didn't change revs and car totally unresponsive. Coasted to a halt then battery light came on. Car then started straight away as if nothing wrong. This happened twice on the motorway and twice driving through town. Apart from this the car is running very well.

Going to take it to my local lotus garage tomorrow.

Has anyone suffered the same symptoms?

Any suggestions for what the problem might be?

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Car basically went dead on the m6. Pulled over and stopped the engine. It started again fine and has thankfully never happened since.

Can't really offer any advice though!

bolted to the upright, looks like an ABS sensor, should be 1mm from the trigger ring max

Sounds like some sort of error has sent the ECU into recovery mode. Happened constantly in a hire elise that I had a few years ago. They (Lotus) failed to remedy the problem during the 2-3 months I was looking after the car.

Well the car has been at the local Lotus garage all day. They can't replicate the cutting out, the ECU doesn't show anything is wrong and the chaps at Lotus head office have no idea what the problem could be.

PM anniesdad, it was his car and I know he resolved the problem.

Mate had a faulty crankshaft sensor on a car ( non lotus) just used to intermittently loose crank position and throw a wobbly. That never showed on a print out either and an unknown fault for his car at the dealers .

Not making much progress with at the moment. My car has the same symptoms as a few other cars so it's a good chance that the ecu is at fault.

However after 100 miles or so in the car the Lotus garage still can't replicate the problem so I'm in limbo.

How much would a new Lotus Ecu set me back? This might be the only way to get the car back quickly for some summer fun.

I had exactly the same problem in my Elise last summer - Eventually, (after changing Lambda Sensor, Crankshaft Sensor, Idle Air Control Valve, and all plugs and leads) the problem was found to the the Fuel Pump.

Does the cut out happen abrubtly / brutally and feel like the engine misfiring randomly for 0.5-1.0 seconds?

Also, do you have air conditioning on your car and does the problem only occur with aircon switched on?

I had exactly the same problem on my car, and it turned out to be a faulty air conditioning relay between the aircon unit and ECU. Fortunately, my car was under warranty and the relay was replaced for free.

Not fun having the Elise misfire, and certainly not fun when the Elise misfires when overtaking under full throttle acceleration.

That's it exactly. Only ever happens with the aircon on.Off to the garage tomorrow.
