F1 or LMP1

As being discussed now on Eurosport what would lap quicker? LMP1's are doing 3.30 (in the dry) but surely an F1 could not only corner better but carry higher speed into the corners too?

I think an LMP1 would be quicker. It has a much higher top speed and is set up to cope with the track which is as we all know, a public road. If an F1 car want a higher top speed, it would lose much of its downforce round the corners.

F1 probably ultimately quicker but would much rather add a few seconds and watch the LMP1 :-)

They race on the same track at Spa. Anyone know comparartive lap times?

I would guess over a lap F1 would be much quicker as all LMP cars must run restricters if nothing else. But over a decent distance (say, 2 hours plus), the LMP might win

F1 lap record for spa is a 1:45, set by Raikkonen in 2004.

At the LMES Spa round this year, quali times were circa 2:00 for the Peugeots.

15 seconds sounds alot but maybe the lack of a real long straight counts against the LMP1?

Little Ant (Davidson) was saying earlier on Eurosport that it's the slow speed corners where the LMP1 cars lose out, but of course he only has experience of the Lola P1, not the cream of the field.

To be honest, I couldn't care (I know that sounds churlish and isn't in the spirit of your OP).
I'll happily pay money to watch endurance racing, I wouldn't pay a bean to watch an F1 'race'.

On GT4 the F1 was marginaly quicker round the lap, but the Audi was quicker at the top end of the straights.
