Apologies for what may appear to be a numpty question - tech stuff is not really my strong suit!

I have a series of JPEG images (about 3MB each) and I need to reduce them in file size to around 500k in order to upload them to PH Classifieds.

I don't have Photoshop or any other aftermarket editing software. When I imported them from my camera I used whatever programme it was that Windows XP prompted me with at the time and just saved them in My Pictures.

Can anybody tell me how I can reduce their size / save them as smaller files?

Thanks in advance.

Download a piece of software called Irfanview (its free) and go to Image/Size then stick in the dimensions that you want it to be

yes Irfanview, not only can you change the size but you can adjust the file size by changing the quality:
