I'm on the hunt for an E36 M3 and have spotted one for sale with a conversion from SMG to manual. With insurance Co's propensity for loading premiums for anything non-standard/modified on the car, I'm wondering how they might view such a conversion...ignore or load?!
Thoughts appreciatedsmile

On a slightly different tack; I'm in NE Scotland and there seems to be very few truly good E36 M3's around for sale (Evo or non Evo Coupe only) My perception of "mint" is somewhat at odds with that of the sellers!
If anyone is considering selling theirs let me know...Estoril/Avus Blue or Silver with Black interior, FSH etc would tick most of the boxes for me and will induce me to hand over some "hard-earned" for the right car!

If it bother's you don't bother with it, there are loads around.

As for value for money/condition,it seems as M3 buyers expect a hunter gold watch for 50p with a 10 year guarantee.
It sounds to me your looking for a minter, fair enough but why then consider a conversion car ??
Doesn't make any sense, just buy the most original car you can find ,make sure you pay for a really good inspection & you'll be happy, top dollar of-course.

The conversion doesn't particularly bother me. It's been done professionaly and properly as I understand. Good colour, full dealer history, low mileage cherished car - sounds good to me...find out at the w/e!

"Loads around" not in Scotland sadly. One excellent example out of 5 viewed, but wrong colour for me.
Just getting a little frustrated with seeing "mint" examples...rusty arches, dents/scratches, poor accident repairs, budget tyres, incomplete history, fecked interiors. 750 miles worth of fuel for bu**er all

So yes, if someone describes their car as "mint" and wants top-dollar, I want to see some justification for their asking price. I'd happily go to £6-6.5k for the right car; but for that I don't expect mint, but a damn sight closer to it than some of the optimistic sellers offerings so far.

I'll get there though

I belive as the cars logbox will say manual, and its still got a manual if you remove the SMG you should be fine. My SMG is insured as a Manual as they didnt have option for Semi- ;0)
