I have just got a new laptop and wireless network setup. Is there anyway to sync "my documents" +others back on to the desktop.

I need the same documents on both, but read only versions on the desktop

If you right click on the My documents icon you can move this folder to a server based share. This will store your docs on the server instead of the laptop. Then make the folder available offline. This will keep a synchronised copy on the laptop. When you disconnect from the server your docs go with you. You can do this on the 2000 machine also.

You can make most folders and type of file available for offline use.

I don't use this feature much so not sure how you could possibly use permissions to make them read only to the desktops. If you have a domain then possibly assign permissions based on the computer account ???

If you/someone else creates a doc on the server while the laptop is not connected the laptop gets it at next sync and visa versa (sp?).

If you edit a doc while disconnected and someone edits the same one on the server you get a dialogue box at next sync saying "Oi there's two versions of this which do you wnat to keep or do you want to rename one?" or words to that effect.
