Doesn't have to be fisheye. A 10-20 will do that if you get close to the subject.

Perhaps the cheap ebay UV filters have a place in your kit bag afterall, as even a sigma 10-20 or tamoron 12-16 is close to £500

These are a couple of mine all taken with a 10-20, with a flash, in my garage which has a white floor. Not as good as the examples in the original post but easily done.







I wouldn't worry about noses on the lens front element - it happens to me all the time and is easily cleaned off.

The thing to be aware of is just how much of a white area you need because at 10mm you are capturing a large floor area! Or just use PS to clone out any areas you don't want in the final picture.

I really didn't want to spend much so I don't think this will happen.

Unless there's a good M42 lens that could get this effect? They seem to go cheap enough on eBay...

If you can handle manual everything then you'll probably find a cheap Russian fisheye for £30 or so. I had a Hanimex 7.5mm - it was just stupid!

Following on from what Simpo says - focusing with a fisheye is a bit easier as well because the DoF is usually much much greater. Just focus at the closest distance and then fire away.

There are some other options open:

Fisheye adaptor to screw on the front of your lens (about £60).

Hire a lens for a day/week.

Use photoshop's lens correction filter to create the effect.

This is what I did!

It comes in two parts - the front is the wide angle bit, and the rear is a macro diopter.

I found that by bodging my own +10 diopter onto the wide angle front, I get an even wider angle effect.

Lots of puppy nose mucus as previously mentioned and hard to get them to sit still, but good fun !

Well it's been a while but I have now got myself a fisheye lens... One of the various brands of Korean 8mm f/3.5 fisheyes.

Here's what has resulted from mucking around so far :










And other than the endless nose smudges, there is one other hazard when photographing crazy dogs with a big chunk of protruding unprotected glass ... This was a scary moment :


But luckily the lens survived and I am now on the lookout for an empty white garage that I can bounce some flash guns in. It's seriously hard to get even light on side wide pictures when the subject is less than an inch from the lens!
