laptop for video editing
Discussion
i cant advise on the pc front, but my macbook works a treat with HD. A lot of serious editors go for the macbook pro, but that was way out of my price range. My run of the mill macbook copes with editing fine, its just top end motion graphics projects that it stuggles. Ive pimped mine to have 4 gig ram and a 500 gig hard drive, and its never let me down. I edit using final cut pro.
Its size makes it very portable, when im at home i plug in to a huge second monitor for a dual monitor setup. The only complaint i have is the slightly glossy screen- although im used to it now.
what type of HD are you going to be editing? HDV is heavily compressed, and uses a lot more processing power. Formats like HDCAM arent as compressed, but do take up a lot more hard drive space, and therefore the size and speed of your hard drive itself can become a bottleneck
