My kids showed me a "fun" website this morning, and on part of it, you put in a few bits it asks for, like, a number, a clour, a popgroup, etc. and it makes up a story about the info. given. Well, when the little story came up, and it started with "That boyfriend of yours hasn't been to see you for ****** days...", only the number of days was the same as my credit card number!!

The children insisted they had put 6 as the number, and there is nothing in the study that they could use to get my card number.

Can anyone offer a non-computer geek an explanation, and how should I follow this up? Is my computer being interrogated to get credit card details?

Err, I think it's www.mykindaplace.com - a teen site, so be prepared for complete drivel!

Have you put your details in any wallet type programs? The sort that save time with filling in forms by auto filling any fields you've told it about?

The google toolbar has this feature for example.

Number of days same as your credit card number?

Thats a 16 digit numeric, that would mean she hasnt seen her boyfriend for 10 million years or so...

The autofill thing sounds very plausible. Sadly, most on-line fraudsters are quite inteligent so to display the number of the card they are ripping off is not something they are likely to do.

We've done quite a few kids websites and the one you quote sounds familiar in a ligitimate sort of way (although please don't take my word for it!)

My four and a half year old son was quite taken with a Ferrari Dealership site a few weeks back and took it upon himself to pre-order 1,000 360s! The auto fill completed everything on the form (including credit card details!) and off it went. Not surprisningly (but thankfully) the dealer e-mailed back to request further confirmation/clarification of the order!!!
