I want to sell a few high value small items, many of which far exceed the £2500 insurance limit of Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Which courier would people recommend, which offer high value insurance?

Thanks, guys and girls

I've spent 5mins on Google and DHL's website. Here's a policy document for DHL's insurance:
http://www.dhl.co.uk/publish/etc/medialib/gb/downl...

It says:
"Charge. The cost of Shipper’s Interest Insurance for
express documents and parcels is 1.5% of the
replacement value you have declared (subject to a
minimum charge of 9.00 GBP). This cost includes VAT
and/or Insurance Premium Tax (IPT), where applicable."

Also it's backed by AIG. (Ok, so not the worlds best insurance company right now.)

It also says:
"Your goods will be insured for the replacement value
that you have advised us prior to collection. In the
event of a claim, you will be required to provide
evidence of the value of the shipment."

"Basis of loss settlement. Cover is limited to the
value declared by you, replacement cost, invoice value
or actual cash value whichever is the lowest. Evidence
may be requested to substantiate the declared value in
the event of a claim. You are required to declare its
value prior to collection by or delivery to DHL,
as appropriate."

and finally (incase DHL or AIG go bust)

"Compensation scheme. In certain circumstances
you may be entitled to compensation under the
Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
should DHL and / or AIG be unable to meet their
obligations. Insurance arranging is covered for 100%
of the first £2,000 and 90% of the remainder of the
claim, without any upper limit. Information can be
obtained on request, or by visiting the Financial
Services Compensation Scheme website,
www.fscs.org.uk"

Hope that helps as it seems to me that 1.5% isn't a bad rate, depending on the nature of your items. And it doesn't appear to be subject to a cap. I didn't find anything on their website to suggest it was. But I'd phone them up if I were you.

If it's relatively small, and being delivered in the UK, then a personal courier or taxi might be the most cost effective way.

No nothing as interesting as small bags of white substances - BTW I am old enough to remember when the expression: 'I am going to the toilet to powder my nose' meant something entirely different.

My problem is this: I am selling my watch collection - financial support needed for my ageing mistress! I live in Cyprus; now it is no problem if the buyer is in/near London - I fly in, do the deal face to face and that's it.

But if the Buyer is, say, north of Watford, its a chore/added expense to hire a car/take a train to some outlandish place and adds another day away from home and a hotel bill.

So wanted to know a 'safe' way to send a valuable watch.

Thanks for the DHL advice; I will check on Google where their offices are in London.

Now were is my ageing mistress.....?

What about a bike courier or similar, they shift stuff like this all day everyday, quick too!
