I have just realised (stop laughing at the back, I've just realised ok ) that I can connect PC's up via firewire cables. Does this mean if I set up an IEEE network they can share the Internet via ICS?

Only ask as I am often doing some things on the PC which slow it down and if I can plop the laptop down next to it I could access PH (priorities you know) till it's finished.

Possible?

Edited to add is there a limit to cable length for the network?

Cheers m'dears!

I dont know about firewire but you can with USB with the correct cable. Why dont you just link both machines together with a network cross over cable much easier and cheaper

I do already, I just wondered if it would work with firewire (I already have the cables from linking cameras) and I'm only going to have the laptop sat next to a desktop anyway.

Trial and error, see if it works I guess.

So what do you stand to gain other than the geeky satisfaction that it can be done?

Well apart from the obvious

My desktop (access the internet) is often doing rather a lot of things which slows it down. And I still need internet access at the same time. On the desktop it's very slow, so If the laptop, plugged in can access the internet I can operate normally till the PC's finished.

Please don't mention hubs and routers though, I know about them, this is purely a firewire based enquiry.

Thanks.
