The point of this topic is I have read a few times that the plug/socket connections can be a problem. I thought that rather than replace the main one in the engine bay (near the coil) I would cut the wires back and solder them, doing away with the connector altogether. My thoughts were why replace a poor connection for a potential poor connection?
The first thing I noticed was that the wires would just pull out of the old socket with a pair of long nosed pliers without much resistance. I have soldered 4 wires so far and had to nip out, so gave it a go. What a difference! The previous hesitation has gone, the engine revs smoother and pulls better. I cannot recommend this enough and will be removing all other connections possible over the next few weeks.

If all the wires go to individual leads that can be unplugged then I can't really see it being a problem.
I doubt it was designed to last this long anyway - lets face it how many sierras and granadas do you see on the road now?

Is that the multi-plug connector in the right-hand V that I mentioned I've had problems with in the past?

Never thought about doing away with it, but now that you mention it, it seems like a good idea!

Yes this is the multiplug above plug No1 near the plenum chamber. Get a pair of long nose pliers and try a gently tug of one of the cables going into it - just have a soldering iron handy! My S4 has 30k miles and is this bad, must be all the same.
