Our common enemy on radio these days (among other things) is repetition. Same songs, same news pieces, same gags etc

So, many of us choose to shun commerial(ised) radio altogether and listen to Radio4. Excellent range of subject matter and journalism and can really only be pulled up in my opinion for opening a current affairs can of worms between two guest commentators and then shoving the lid on it again after 30 seconds to get on with another story, just as things were getting interesting.

But there is another rather disturbing trend on the R4. The increasingly despicable phrase "I think", particularly when the commentator has unshakeable belief that by pre-facing their opinion with "I think", it suddenly gathers unquestionable crediblity. The faux earnest is excruciating.

Its I think this and I think that, sometimes 3 or 4 times in the same sentence. By 4pm, the LAST thing you want to hear again is what someone thinks!

What about "in my opinion", "its my belief that", "the conclusion Ive drawn is", "in my experience" or even "it occurs to me that"?!

FFS, if youre so clever, be a bit creative about presenting your st.

Always amazes me how peoples tastes can differ so greatly, personally I think there are few things more banal and coma-inducing than radio based discussion shows.

Thank god for the iPod I say smile

I'm waiting for 'Man's Hour' to give equality with 'Woman's Hour'... I fear it may be a long wait.

Unless it talks about climate change of course.

I am not a fan of 'shouty' commercial radio stations! Usually with some gobby nearly 40 going on 19 y/o who feels the need to talk loud in a London east end accent. rolleyes

I don't mind radio 2 but tbh i have quite enjoyed listening to ClassicFM. I must be getting old. smile

What i really don't like with radio 4 is that every line from a guest seems to be preceeded by:

"Well what i would say is..."

What do you mean "would say"? You're saying it now! Why the pre-babble crap? Stupid politicians. Grrrrr

Radio 4 is the best thing the BBC does - even if I don;t always understand what they are talking about.
