That's hotel prices - almost twice as much as normal London prices.

Hilton had a Costa labelled coffee lounge - but at twice the price of normal Costa coffee.

What do you mean 'almost twice as much as normal'?
It's about 4 times as much as normal.

I suggest the OP has been ripped off.

How long was the OP there for ?

Cheap for a meeting room in Central London.

You can buy a coffee anywhere in London for £2 ish but not a plush meeting place.

Not comparing like with like.

We have been known to have meetings in Starbucks and Costa Coffee shops and I work for a big organisation.... £45 on expenses for coffees would go down like a lead balloon...

I work in London and originate from the South West. I find, like for like, the South West to be more expensive!

Those prices are extortionate but as another poster noted, you were paying for the plush, W1, surroundings.

I work in the City of London. Coffee is 80p to go, and I sometimes splash out on two slices of toast, with butter for 90p, or £1.20 for Bloomer bread.

You must have been paying for the surroundings, chillax.

NOw listen here, my American friend.
If you are going to work in our beloved Capital (and you are most welcome as far as I am concerned) there are a couple of English phrases you need to learn.
1) take away (to denote taking something away from food establishments as opposed to eating in).
2) Calm down. This means 'stop getting so annoyed'. Most Brits wont know what you mean when you say "Chillax" in that it is not a word and it doesnt mean anything.
They will probably hate you and mutter things like "fking Yanks" behind your back.

Just my little bit of advice to aid better integration!

I agree. Having worked in London for a couple of years, about the only thing more expensive is property. Couple that to most of the locals on a minimum wage, and it's no wonder we've become "god's waiting room".
