Most rewarding finance position?
Discussion
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice from more worldly wise PHers. I am CIMA qualified and have been working in industry in a large multinational blue chip for 5 years; basic stuff up to running a small team. Looking to move on in the company and have the support of my FD, but I just don't know what to look at.
So I throw it open to you lot. What was your most rewarding position? What did you get the most out of, or what would be the one role you'd recommend someone to do, and why?
Cheers in advance,
BTC

I'm CIMA too.
Most rewarding for me has been work outside core Finance, as part of a Purchasing & Planning team.
I did an operations role for 13 months involving factory closure, resource of product abroad, managing stock during product changeover, helping negotiate an extended warranty solution for the new product.
This seems to be the thing on my CV that people concentrate on even thouhg it was 3 years ago.
If you have your FDs support then give non finance roles a try - with your training you should be suited to anything commercial.

Thanks Vee. I was actually discussing a secondment, but I'm not sure that it is going to look that good at this stage in my career as it would be non finance. Got a feeling I need to do another straight finance role to bolster the CV before looking at something like that.

If you want something rewrding then non finance is worth a look - only the most prehistoric, stereotypical accountant would look upon someone with a different experience negatively imo. There are loads of accountants out there but how many actually have business experience ?
