Some cretin wrecked my front clam while parking in from of me. Looks like it was a tow bar or something. Insurance recommends that I go to Body Technics in Slough, does anyone know them, have any experience with them?

Technically very good in my experience, but poor at providing updates on progress.

This was 5 or so years ago, not sure what the standards are like there now.

Also, my understanding is that it's more of a Porsche specialist repairer - this may have changed in the last few years but are you compelled to take your car there? Could you talk to your insurance company and organise a Lotus specialist instead? No doubt you've looked into this already.

Best of luck

Specialised Paints behind Porsche at Junct 12 M4, would be where I would take mine if I needed an insurance job done.

Used Specialised Paintwork before, they were good. Body Technics is apprently Lotus approved now as well, so I'll go for a quote and I guess I can compare with Specialised, since the person that caused the damage will likley never be found and insurance then treat it as my fault ie I pay excess they pay the rest, even though perfectly in my right, it is slightly more hassle to take a garage that is not on the approved list of the insurer.

Body Technics explained to me today 14 days after asking for an estimate that they had not done it yet, as they needed to get part prices from Lotus, after offering to get the part quotes for them, they informed me that even then they still could not tell me when they could complete the estimate. I told them not to bother and am back with Specialised Paintwork despite the additonal insurance back'n forth. In my opinion/particular case, I would not recommend them for Lotus bodywork.

Is this Body Technics on Slough Trading Estate, or the very very similarily named firm in Langley??

The big, pompous one (IMO) is the one on the trading estate (lots of Fezza's). Got a quote from them last summer for a 2" scratch on one of my cars. I'll never be asking them again!

The other guys are two brothers, Bob and Nick, and in my experience, very good.

Hi, Had to have a new clam 5 years ago, my insurance company, suggested 3 repair garages in the Watford area, after
telling them I would like to use a specialist (Sinclaires) the had no issues, just needed Sinclaires details. As the accident was
my fault, I just had to pay Sinclaires the excess (£250) the bill was over £5500! Insurance at the time was Direct Line.

There should be no extra hassle having your clam repaired by a specialist of your choice.

Whats the deal about taking back to the factory, i.e. there service centre? Do they do repairs, then I guess you would have a clam sprayed like new....

Just an idea...
