Two new Mad Max films?

On March 5, 2009, it was announced that the franchise would be revived with a "3-D anime feature film". George Miller is resurrecting the idea as an R-rated, stereoscopic anime film for theatrical release. [9]
On May 18, 2009, however, it was reported that location scouting was underway for a new live action filming of "Mad Max 4".
I know it's been touted since 2002 but there seems to be some real movement on Mad Max 4 and an 'Anime' sequal, with a $100m budget confirmed and location scouts looking for places to film.On May 18, 2009, however, it was reported that location scouting was underway for a new live action filming of "Mad Max 4".
I really really hope this happens.
We need more films featuring stuff like this:

I'll find the original source of the new later

To be honest it's the reserection of the proper live action Mad Max 4 that i'm mostly excited about.
To be honest...Me too

Just hope they keep the gritty vision of the the future that the originals had.
Apparently Africa is a likely filming location not a bluescreen in hollywood so sounds gritty already. (not set in Africa though)
I take it this will star Mel Gibson? Bit of an "Indiana Jones..Crystal Skull...revisit-the-old-franchise" thing going on there, isn't there.
They'll have to make the Max character old. Interesting story ideas there.
Call me a luddite but I hope they go with the Australian feel of 1 and 2 and not the Hollywood kids movie that was 3.

If it does, Mad Max will be sporting a 1979 egg shell blue Invacar. They'll have to make the Max character old. Interesting story ideas there.

3D Anime?
I hope with every fibre of my being that this doesn't happen.
Anime:

3D films:

I think they are probably referring to 3d rendered anime such as Initial D and Wangan Midnight. Those basically animated petrolhead porn.I hope with every fibre of my being that this doesn't happen.

3D films:

For those that don't know:
Initial D - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxd9yoQyz_g
Rally driving/drifting
Wangan Midnight - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a53JyHW8IZY
Straight line street racing.
This is great news, Mad Max is one of my top 10 films, the third film missed the plot a bit but the 1st and 2nd are absolute classics!! Hopefully a new live action film will keep the style of the originals and keep away from CGI, although with studio involvement it'll probably be rubbish, the original was filmed by two medical students who borrowed as much as they could and bought a fleet of knackered old taxis!
I remember reading that while filming original Mad Max the crew actually set some world records, I think one was the longest motorcycle jump at that time. It was also had the highest ratio of production cost to box office return until The Blare Witch Project in 1999.

While I look forward to this, I can't help but think that the new film will be too shiny, too new, too CGI - consider the gritty, harsh, bleak Mad Max 1 film and think how Hollywood will glam that up.
It's only got a $100m USD budget which would be pretty quickly swallowed up by blowing-up a small area of desert, I don't think this enough to cover a major CGi film.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
