Replacement seats for an S1, recommendations please
Discussion
Hi all,
My mother-in-law (to be) kindly offered to recover the seats from my S1, looking very tired after 21 years of use. I have taken the leather covers off the frame after a lot of cussing but now realise that these seats need a lot of refurbishment, foam has started to disintegrate and all the springing and wires are very rusty
, frame doesn't look too good either.
I have decidsed it's probaly best to replace so what have other owners used? I was bidding on a pair of Jag XJS seats but they didn't reach the reserve (I was top bidder at £51.00 !!)
Any experience welcome, in particular what fits well and what requires a fair amount of re-work

XJS Seats are a good option in my opinion - did you try contacting the seller to see if you could negotiate a price?
I paid £100 for mine (full leather - there are some cloth ones about).
Griff or Chimaera seats also fit but tend to fetch strong money.
I've seen Lotus Elise seats in a Chimaera - so they should fit in an S.
The important thing with the seats is that they need to be narrow.
EdT on here has just taken some cloth seats out of his car and replaced with XJS - so his cloth seats out of an MR2 I think might be up for sale.

Thanks for the reply, I owned an Elise before the TVR, although the seats are good they are not great for long journeys and mine was the 111s which had slightly more padding!
Thanks for the heads up regarding the MR2 seats but seeing how much the TVR leaks leather has to be the way to go
So, the search continues.......

Thanks to Barkychoc I also took the XJS route:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
If for any reason you'd like the previous seats (MR2) for the price of a pint, you're very welcome. They didnt suit my car (grey vinyl / dark blue seats) although I kept them in as they were so very supportive & comfy even on longer trips. Probably even better than the XJS ones, but it's not all about comfort is it...

Seems you have the same colour interior as my car, seats look good but I may now refurb the originals.
I noticed your warning lights are missing the plastic cover as are mine, seems sourcing certain parts is difficult.
Mirrors look good, probably next job after the seats, carpets etc etc

Will be interesting to see what you go for as I'm looking at options myself. I hope to have a look at all the S's up at Gaydon for some ideas...I've only ever seen one other S in real life and it looked wrecked.I noticed your warning lights are missing the plastic cover as are mine, seems sourcing certain parts is difficult.

EDT - carpets don't look that bad to do (famous last words) I'll keep people posted with progress
I did mine not that bad just need to take your time over it. I used a lighter weight nylon based carpet that was easier to mould than originals, and I cut them myself rather than buying a pattern set.My website shows how and gives some tips. email me if you want more
