I'm thinking of swapping my 645ci for a new M3. Anyone been down this route?

I used to an E46 M3, and enjoyed that car but found it a bit lacking.

I know you can't really compare the 2 cars but interested in comments?

Cheers

E46 M3 lacking in what respect? I've not driven an E92 M3 but my guess (hope!) is that it would be closer in character to an E46 M3 than a 645Ci and, that being the case, just make sure you have a decent test drive before you decide!

I didn't find the M3 that involving. This was after a couple of months of onwership and I think what I wanted from a car had changed too, so got rid of it and bought a Skyline.

I'm after something a bit more focused again so thats why I'm thinking of a new M3.

I think the E46 M3 is a lot more involving than the new M3.

The new one is too civilised.

I have owned all the current M cars at one time or another.

The E92 is in some ways, too good. I did 1k miles in one last week and got out the other end feeling relaxed ( apart from being stopped by plod ). It never put a foot wrong even under some lead footedness.

You could never say the same about an E46.

I've got to say the E46 is less refined; the e92 is possibly too good at too much; the breadth of it's ability is quite remarkable and with EDC and MDM it's able to mix personalities when required; GT for the Mway trawl and connected rear drive, 400+bhp, LSD (leccy version) howler...not as harsh as a GT-R or anything like a GT3. If you try an E92 you won't find it's impact instant, it's got alot to offer, give it time; you'll see...
