Well, 113 here actually.
I live in a city centre, heard a hell of a kerfuffle outside my flat, about a dozen people, 1 guy being restrained against a wall, some kid on the ground doing very little.
I have no idea what kicked it off, but the kid seemed in a bad way. Called the police and ambulance. Saw kiddo move about and coughing though, so that's a good sign.
Got to give the services their due. Our conversation was barely 30 seconds (mostly due to my italian) and the police arrived with 2 cars barely 2 minutes later. Ambulance a couple of minutes later.
Poor little bugger. Hope he's OK.

Obviously trying to crack down on unsanctioned beatings.

Why do you hope he is ok? you don't know what happened for all you know the kid could have just raped the other guys daughter.

I honestly doubt that's true he looked about 11. Though as you say, I don't know, perhaps the kid got hit by a car and the bloke was a concerned relative.
Given the probablilties though, I'll stick to my "Hope a child doesn't die, perhaps he didn't rape someone" guns.

fair enough just making a point with a bit of exageration

Happen to have been in a funny situation 2 weeks ago where it was me against 5 youths. Thing is people were walking round teh corner having a go at me because they had not seen the original incident.

Wasn't it meant to be 112 all over EU?

They have a different number for each here.
113 for police, 118 ambulance, 114 fire engine (I think) 117 carabinieri, etc.

I'm fairly sure you can ring 112 as an emergency number all over EU, at the very least it gets transferred to the right emergency service number.
It does make sense to only have to remeber one number instead of a dozen different ones smile

Ambulance response times are very good over here (Unlike pretty much anything else), lost count of the number of times an ambulance arrives at scene before the call is even finished.

Tis true. We had to have an ambulance out after my 3 year old woke up struggling to breath. NHS Direct called ambulance. We had a community response medic here in 5 minutes and an ambulance in 15. Given that we are in the country, and approx 20 mins from the ambulance base, and the really foul night that it was I was very impressed.

The Community Repsonse initiative is well worth supporting as it is run by volunteers.
