Does anyone here use this? I'm thinking of buying one for next season, and was wondering if anyone else had any experience with it.

No - but I'd like to know what other people think of them too

They will be at the AutoSport show in Jan.
The new demon tweeks catalogue (2004) has just popped through my letterbox and it has them starting from around 600quid all the way up to almost 900.

I'll stick with my standard foam neck support for a while yet.

Yeah, I noticed this as well. I looked into this last year, and the cost was about £1500. Grand Prix Racewear advertised them in their catalogue, but they weren't available when I called at the start of the year. It looks like Stand21 will be doing them as well, so I'm guessing that the parent company in the US has licensed the manufacturing rights to various other companies who are now selling them more cheaply.

I've used a foam support for the last couple of years, but have heard that they're not particularly effective.

I think £500 is a pretty small price to pay for the increased safety it offers, especially as most of the recent fatalities in club racing have apparently been as a result of neck injuries.

im not sure about that after having 2 similar offs 1 with a foam brace and one without they do make a difference. i even use it when karting now its not worth the risk.

I certainly wouldnt race without one...

as for the Hans im interested in that to, but if the F1 drivers are complaining they dont fit on teir several grand models, how is a 500 quid version going to be any better. Id like to think it would be but expensive to try and find out...

Graham,

I agree they do make a difference, and I've had a big off without one (sore neck for days) and another off with (no problems at all) so I also will always wear one, but I've heard that they are not anywhere near as good as a HANS, although at £20 vs £500 you can't really expect them to be!

I think the F1 problems were partly down to the small cockpits and reclined driving positions. I'm not aware that any other drivers have complained though (IRL, Champ Cars, DTM etc...) I think that without the constraints of an F1 cockpit, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Myabe the pair of us should just stop hitting things

you could be right about the problem being an F1 thing as there are about 3 different fittings for different typs of car. id be interested in hearing how the dtm guys got on with them.

do any of the toca or gt boys use them ?
