Hi guys,

My RS4 appears to have developed a slow-speed steering "whine", when the wheel is on full lock, in either direction.
Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know what it could be?
It would be good to have an idea of what it could be before I head off to the dealer smile

Many thanks,

Darren

If it only does it on max lock then this is not a fault - you are running the steering against the stops and the power assistance is now at its maximum pressure with nowhere to go.

The pump will be running shut in now and this will create noise (as it can't 'assist' the steering to move any further).

If your pump is generally noisy, then it may require looking at.

If it is just noisy when under a bit of load - when turning the wheel - There is an Audi-approved mod, I believe, where the dealer may elect to swap your power steering fluid our for a different specification one.

It is indeed under full load.
Many thanks for the reply. I'm pleased to know it's nothing wrong. I will enquire as to this fluid replacement, too smile
Thanks again,

Darren

I seem to remember is says in the handbook of my S4 that you should avoid keeping it on full lock for too long. I guess it is because of this.
