Hi, I dont know anything about sports or about betting but today me and my mate pete where walking past coral and they had the odds up for the next footy game. I already know that if you place a tenner on 1 -8 odds you will get 80 back, yes?

well for example say....

one team has a 1-8 odds and the other has a 1-12 that means what ever team i place £10 on i will either get £80 or £120 so if that's so what stops me from placing two £10 bets one on both teams. No matter what I am bound to win or have a missed some crucial point out?

thanks LL

1-8 odds means that you would have to put 8 "units" on to get 1 "unit" back.

8-1 odds is the way you describe.

If you put £10 at 8-1 you get £80+£10 back.

If you put £10 at 1-8 then that's a different matter wink

In your example don't forget there's the possibility of a draw too & you'll never get those odds on a football game.

10 - 1 means put 1 pound on get 10 pounds back (plus your stake so 11)
1 - 10 means put 10 pounds on get 1 pound back (plus your stake so 11)

1 - 10 is referred to as "10 to 1 on".

Are you sure they are the odds, what you describe does happen but not very often and not with such odds.

You are aware that 8-1 on is not 1-8?
