That is true, but I would make sure you get a very good deal as come selling time the mileage is going to be an issue for some, even if not a valid one.
Do the usual things, check the service history, regular proper oil changes and it should be fine.
One advantage of a newer high mileage car is that is has probably spent a lot of time on a motorway which will wear the engine and other components a lot less.
Not likely that it has been a taxi so wouldnt worry about that.
Make sure you know a good VAG independant and haggle like crazy, like you dont care about the car and go for it!

Mine has just passed 80k and is fine, the engine has a little rattle (un-lubed cam chain) from cold start but over the last 20k this has not got any worse.
I would check for the following as this is what mine has needed:
Coil Packs, give the car a damn good thrash on the test drive. I did and two coil packs failed and were replaced before I collected it.
Shocks, both rear shocks were knackered on mine at 65k but were replaced by Audi under warranty.
Seat motors, mine has the heated electric Recaros (not the bucket seats) and the lumbar support motors failed on both seats at 65K so make sure the seats are fully functional (these were also replaced under warranty).
Have a look at the condition of the air filter and pre filter, I think the air intake is badly located as the amount of leaves and s
t that end up in mine is unbelievable.

When a coil pack goes down you won't miss it, you'll get an engine management light and all of a sudden your car will sound like an impreza, the first time it happens you'll shat yourself and think it's serious, the reality is once you know which cylinder has lost it's mojo it's a twenty quid part and takes 2 minutes, infact last time it happened I fitted a new one in the car park of my local dealers. I basically loses one cylinder and runs on seven which makes it feel all unbalanced and horrible.

Is it worth buying one and carrying it in the car as a spare?

In the same tone you could say may as well carry a set of plugs in the boot incase one degrades. I would assume they are/would be in dealer parts o within 1 day of ordering hardly an issue.
Failing that you could change all 8 when you buy it therefore any on the way out will be covered.
I do actually now days have a spare in my garage simply because its a PITA when they go (normally stock item at my dealers) but the problem with having one in the car is that it's not staight forward to identify which cylinder has gone down, the easy way is to plug in VAG COM which takes seconds but that would mean carrying a laptop and connector leads all the time as well which I can't be arsed with.

Can't you just unplug them one at a time, untill you find the one that make no difference? (like we used to in the old days)Welshbeef said:
