Not wanting to promote speeding - LOL but the survey seems a little one sided - surely we should have a survey of max speed without getting caught !!

OK speeding when it's safe - conditions - traffic etc.

Highest speed I've known was from a modified 911 RS - on the A10 south of Hertford - 205mph. I wasn't in the car but it's a reliable source.

I seem to cruise around 130 quite happily on the motorways - but the car has every detector and jammer you could hope for.

Nowhere near 205! But bomeone I know a few years back managed 145mph from a Capri 2.8 with a Tickford Turbo conversion and some mods.
And someone else I know passed an unmarked car on the motorway one Christmas Day at 120mph, copper passed him pulled in front and slowed him down to 85ish then left at the next slip road with a flash of the blues and a cheery wave!

He's only managed 135mph in his Chimaera so far - obviously not trying hard enough yet.

There will be plenty more stories making my friends antics look pathetically tame.

I know someone who took a modified 911 Turbo 4 - 450 brake - out on a test drive. He was warned to pull out first before flooring it for an overtake, which was very good advice

On a clear one mile stretch of dual carriageway, 250 kph = 155 mph before he bottled it. In mitigation, the road surface was (apparently) quite bumpy at that speed and the entire stretch of road was curving to the right.

in the early hours on the M25 with absolutely no traffic I stretched the 911 legs abit and had it at 175 - still hadn't got my foot on the floor and that was before I had to bigger intercooler fitted.

Years ago going up on the A74 (scotland) I was doing 110mph and I was overtaken my a Merc driven by the Princess Di (no really) - closely followed by her bodyguards in another Merc

Had an indicated 160 from a standard 4:0 Chimaera on the M3 08:00 Xmas day 2000 (no other traffic)it was on the downhill section going north from the A303 with either a good following wind or maybe an optermistic speedo - but it certainly felt fast and the front felt very light.

Similar thing happened to me when I was on my scooter late one night on the Paris ring road, good job I had my handy Nikon with me.

170, on numerous occasions.

Followed at 150 by police helicopter, got away with it!
how cool is that?

Less cool, it made me sell that particular bike as I was crapping myself for ages waitng for the "knock" or the invitation to court. Live and learn!

Obviously now I am a lot more moderate with the fun handle - 130 last weekend, as witnessed..!

I squeezed 135 out of my alfa gtv on the a12. Ran out off puff and felt very light and 'floaty' at that speed. I fancy going on the autobhans when I get a fast car.

Anyone been caught despite using radars?

I was late picking a friend up from Nice airport late one night not so long ago. An indicated 295 kph before I had to slow down a bit before a corner...

115MPH on a 40 limit dual carrige way. Looking back it probably wasn't a great idea but it was quite good fun and I got away with it. (Wasn't in my Fiesta BTW!!)

An indicated 145 on the speedo of my Merc on the M45 (as used by those fine Jaguar test drivers)

My wife made me do it though. And that was with her in the back seat, and a 7ft Christmas tree across the passenger side of the car.

Nice and quiet at that speed too. I had the cruise control on for about a mile, but had to slow for a corner.

I don't think it belonged to anyone called Mick. This one came up from a dealer to JM Autos in Enfield for some bits and pieces before being sold. Quite a few turbo 4s have 450 horses, it's an easy chip swap apparently.
