Inspired by another thread on drug testing. We all know that some drugs are awesome but are they immoral? i.e. are you a "f
kwit" for taking them irrespective of any other factors?
I'm referring to recreational drugs like ecstasy, weed, magic mushrooms and to a lesser extent cocaine.
I'm excluding LSD/Acid, Heroine, Speed and steroids because the health consequences are widely considered to be far more serious than the rest for one reason or another.
I'm also excluding alcohol/tobacco because I feel that's a different issue.
Comments welcome.

"to a lesser extent, coke"? Of all of them that's the one that's probably most immoral due to the impact it has on the "little people" that are involved in its manufacture and distribution. They get f
ked over.
Can't see any issues of morality with the other things really (heroin, I guess for similar reasons to coke)

Yeah but I felt that was more of a judgement call than heroine and I was trying to stick closer to health issues. Aside from dissolving your face and potentially causing heart attacks a lot of people do cocaine in moderation free from adverse effects (so far!).
I'm also not entirely convinced that the cocaine industry f
ks over more people than the oil industry.Edited by G_T on Tuesday 12th May 14:30
In the news today, they reckon that due to the effectiveness of the "war on drugs", coke for the "end user" in the UK is down to about 9% purity. Cut to hell with various s
te, including worming powder and some cancer-related stuff. Won't get you ripped off your tits, but at least you won't get worms.
te, including worming powder and some cancer-related stuff. Won't get you ripped off your tits, but at least you won't get worms.Immoral? Nope, its basic human nature to be intrigued and experimental. We wouldn't know what we could do with various bugs, vegetables and plants if we didn't experiment. And as for various drugs, they have been ingrained on various cultures (most) for centuries, so its to be expected that a certain amount of drug abuse will be expected.
That said, I disagree with recreational ones. There are cheaper, simpler and easier ways to get your 'high' that don't require the use of illegal or legal drugs. Its not a case that these lower level drugs are 'safe' or not. Its more a case that obtaining them is risky, the quality and strength is unknown and the potential side effects random. Also, it typically funds other various types of criminal activity and hence is wrong.
In general I don't condemn drug users, but I do have a problem with some people who simply cannot see or understand that it could be a problem. Drug-driving being a good example; drink affects your judgement and so does being smacked up or spaced out. Quite why some recreational drug users think its perfectly normal to drive while intoxicated I do not know.....
When it starts to affect your life, recreational drugs start to control you, and then it becomes very wrong very quickly.

So you are saying Speed is worse than Coke?
IMHO ,its a rocky road best avoided! One thing can lead to another ,and someone that was once a bright and cheery person is reduced over time to a shambling paranoid wreck!
If this sounds a bit too personal ,well yes it is!Had an Ex GF who thought recreational drugs were OK ,only she had the wrong type of personality for them(An addictive one,as it happens!) and is now but a shadow of her former self.

Coke as in charlie is flooding the uk at the moment and the dealers that cut it up are just ripping the USERS off.Yes they are mixing all sorts of crap with it and killing them with this mix if you get a gram of coke you will be lucky if it is 30% coke anything above 60% you are very lucky.
KIDS if you are reading this drugs are not cool they are BAD.

To the best of my knowledge "speed" is one of the most heavily cut down drugs available. When you combine that with the fact that a significant proportion of adverse health consequences come from the s
t that's mixed in I reckon it's worse health wise. But, again, it's subjective. It all is. Drug users usually aren't too open about their habits despite what many Doctors, police and statisticians believe so I'm just going on what I know.
I try not to be too judgemental on this issue. If people want to indulge in such activities it is down to them to decide.
I've always had a fairly healthy respect for the law as well, so that has discouraged me from stepping too far over the line regarding any illegal substances.
I've never really been into any of this - I've not even smoked nicotine let alone anything more "marginal". Apart from the odd bottle of real ale or a can of Fosters, I'm not keen on anything that affects my critical faculties. Old age is doing enough damage on its own.

I voted C because I think it's a confusing, difficult issue. For instance, just becasue something is illegal, it doesn't mean it's immoral!
Alcohol is recreational and a lot of people have no issue drinking it. I don't do the illegal stuff, but I can see that the main reason that booze is legal and grass is not in thsi country is purely historical. If you are a Muslim, drinkign alchohol is seen as weak and immoral, but the endorsement of carnage is fine under the right circumstances.
There are some very messy people out there who abuse anything - they are the immoral ones, not the weekend dabblers who can control and afford their "poison".

Grown adults can do what they like in my opinion, as long as there not hurting anyone why should it bother you.
If and when they start being cocks with it, thats when they lose all rights to doing what they like, but doing it by yourself isn't a problem.
Very good comment! If and when they start being cocks with it, thats when they lose all rights to doing what they like, but doing it by yourself isn't a problem.
Unfortunately you need to take into account the people in the supply chain who often suffer greatly to supply the "recreational" user and also those who the dealer "sets-up" to get hooked on the drugs (weak willed and susceptible).
