You can't fish underneath pylons. Well, you can but it might get a bit crispy.

I'm convinced the devious little sods know this and hang out there on purpose.

I dont think they do SE.
WHere did you hear this?

ALthough, that said, despite being thick, fish have extraordinary instinct.
I used to walk around my local lake and in the close season all the carp would come to the edge and eat whatever you would throw them. Every single day.
First day of the open season I was the first person there 3 seasons running and not a single fish to be seen. Absolutely bizarre.
You also see it regularly that fish congregate in 'no fishing' areas and will brazenly swim around the surface.

conversation in the office, said by a very keen angler

don't know if it's true myself, he said it's something to do with the ionised air

My guess is that he fishes somewhere where there is a no fishing zone under some pylons and the fish do indeed congregate there.
THen people have started attatching thier own theories to this phenomenon.
Ionised air. Hmmmmm.

Yes I do and I have never noticed a prevalence of fish under pylons particularly.

Edit: That said, I am not the ultimate authority on fishing. It is possible they do and I have never noticed it. What is true, though, is that an awful lot of fisherman talk bks and come out with the most nonsensical theories that they are obsessed with.

I can vouchsafe for this that it's true actually, it's where the current is strongest.

Yeah I did. bd.

My most recent adventure was to my uncle in-laws lake in France. Spent a day after the carp and caught bugger all. Afterwards when we were getting st faced, he decided to tell me that 2 years previously, he released 30 zander into it because "they taste nice". They've decimated the fish stock. Silly git.

never had you down as one of those sad little men that sit beside a river on their own under an umbrella. I had Plotters pegged as that one.
