I always, maybe naively, thought that this is why we pay road tax.Could some of our more estemed members post something sensible to the bbc that shows how stupid this idea is?

My effort for the BBC

"If any private sector company acted in the same way as this government they would be stamped on and quite rightly.

Get yourself in a position where you have a service that everyone has to use. Ruthlessly eliminate the competition by underinvestment, half-baked privitisation schemes and bad management. Then when there is no viable alternative - charge what you like for it and watch the money roll in.

What a way to run a country.

Steve"

At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, here we go again. Some really interesting technology that has all sorts of potential applications to help make the world a safer and better and place but oh no, it has to be used just to beat up the poor bloody motorist.

If as much effort had been put into some of mankind's more pressing problems as has been put into determining ever more ingenious ways of taking money off motorists we'd probably have eliminated AIDS, wiped out cancer and found a genetic test that could allow potential politicians to be identified before birth and terminated.

THIS IS NOT MY COMMENT, THIS IS NOT MY COMMENT.
Its from the replies to the BBC news article mentioned in the first post.
WE REALLY ARE UP AGAINST THE GREAT UNWASHED

"Congestion is a good thing because it prevents speeding, cuts noise and sets an absolute limit on pollution and traffic on other roads. More off peak cars will be a disaster for noise and pollution. Here in Edinburgh whole streets are closed. Not even rich people can kill pedestrians on a closed road."

I rarely use this word due to its extreme offensive nature... but what a c**t.

(even then I am too polite to type the full word)

What a complete and utter pratt. Death is too good for people like this. Hope you've made suitable comments?
