t I have lost a lot of bets and have to buy somebody a Ferrari now...Media have just toned down the 'Armageddon Threats' forr now. There are more cases each day in the UK, but nothing serious yet...and more importantly....NO ONE HAS DIED......yet.
If this thing is the 'Real Deal', then it will be Autumn/ Winter that we'll see it's bite.
Time will tell. But its definately not gone.

It's still very much about, but as it's no more or less dangerous than "normal" influenza (as I understand it), it's kind of dying a media death. The cases here in Scotland have been dealt with like any other flu instance, and mostly at home too. I was tested last week due to a nasty fever and other symptoms but I just had boring normal flu, nothing exotic at all. Quite disappointed really

Doctor friend said this would happen....it will go away for a while, then come back strong in Autumn...follows usual pandemic cycle!
I've heard some really scary numbers for potential mortality rates when this comes back. Doctors don't seem to think there's any doubt about its return. When I first saw all the hysteria about swine flu I was annoyed that it was gonna cost the taxpayer some cash in useless vaccines, lost work days etc. But the sad thing is, it probably will actually kill lots of people. And I don't mean the swine flu itself.
Every year, virologists study the evolution and movement of many strains of the influenza virus in order to work out which one will hit these shores. The reason they do this is that we need to stock pile vaccines, and the vaccine is specific to the strain. Get it wrong, and a greater number of people die (almost exclusively old people and children). It takes several months to stockpile, i.e. they do it from now onwards.
Now, with the media lighting fires under politicians' arses, we're not stockpiling vaccines for "normal" flu, we're going into overdrive to stop the piggy variety. Yes it's virulent (transmissible) but the fact is, nothing so far has indicated it is going to kill a lot of people. Swine flu is targeting young fit people which is why it's different (also why it's compared to Spanish flu of 1918), but it may also be why people won't be dying in droves. I don't know enough about the strain to predict whether it will or not, but if it doesn't turn out to be all that bad, maybe a bunch of people are gonna die because the media needs headlines...
