It's Friday afternoon, here's the quandary from discussion with mates. Can people really be lucky, or unlucky, or is "luck" a complete fallacy? What would you say your quota is like?!

Define "luck"?

Are you inferring luck is some sort of unquantifible magic phenomenon that results in good/bad things happening to you?

Or are you suggesting it's when random probability tends to favour good or bad things happening over a time period?

Sorry but I worked in a bookies for a long time and it's amazing how many people believe it's the former!

the later - in any given situation where random probability can affect you for positive or negative, do you feel it's more likely to be in your favour or against you.

Exactly - its all about how you view the situation.

If someone gets shot but survives are they lucky to have survived or unlucky to have been shot in the first place?

I can assure you sir that had I known that to be the case, I would not have used the statement. My apologies for any offence given, no matter how unintentionally caused.

I've had a fair share of good & bad luck - I don't consider myself to be a lucky or unlucky person.

Does Karma come into it at all?

I'm pretty sure if memory serves correctly, my attempts at making luck are better than your attempts of fixing electrical problems, infact for a novice it may be about luck, therefore that makes my attempts better than yours...

Confused, i am hehe

Kinda believe in karma....I really hurt my ex, and am still suffering for it two years on frown

However, am healthy (well will be soon), happier than I was, and have a great kid (when he's not playing up)...so what else do I need really.

The answer to that question is neoither yes or no--i believe it solely depends on the individuals perception and emotion at any given time--those who perceive to be lucky usually are simply because they are more open to take small daily "gifts" as a stroke of luck whereas though with a negative demeanor who states "nothing works out for me" tends to create that trend by being more open to construe as such

It's really just down to how you perceive things...

"The unlucky are nothing more than a frame of reference for the lucky. You are unlucky, so I may know that I am not. Unfortunately the lucky never realizes they are lucky until it's too late. Take yourself for instance; yesterday you were better off than you are off today but it took today for you to realize it. But today has arrived and it's too late. You see? People are never happy with what they have. They want what they had, or what others have. The grass is always greener on the other side"
