Hi Skiddo
Absolutely gorgeous photos there matey! The lighting is fantastic!
I am sure that a few peeps on PH in general would be up for a drive/photoshoot day out thingy. Perhaps you could post a message on events or General Gassing to see how many would be interested? We certainly would (me and hubby (Judas) never seem to get the photos we want
)
Hope to hear from you soon!
Ace-T
PS Would you mind if I grabbed that Elise (first pic) and used it as desktop wallpaper? I won't until I hear from you mate.

Skiddo,
Nice pics. What do you think of the 1Ds? It's on my "most-wanted" list, but I'll stick with my "old-fashioned" film EOS 30 for now till I can save up enough pennies/wait for prices to come down enough to justify buying one. I'm looking to invest in the same 28-70mm and 70-200mm lenses soon though - what do you think of these?

normal light? i'm not with you...
No, what I mean is just a normal side on or 3/4 shot in fairly bright or flat light so I can get a good idea of the colour... you've captured a great mood shot Skiddo and I'm just intrigued as to the actual colour of the car, it looks a kind of cross between a pinky purple and metallic grey.
Oh, I'm a Nikon man myself but still shooting film. I remain to be convinced as to digital from a reproduction point of view... though I know you will probably argue equally strongly for it
I will no doubt take the plunge sooner or later. And PWIG... I trust that you were stationary for pics 8 and 9

hey pwig how's it going. will have trundle over thew A54 after seeing those pics - looks fantasic.
ehasler. love my 1Ds it is stunning. especially on skin tones which is most of my work. overall tonal rendition is the best i have seen - plus at just shy of 12megpix per image the quality and size is unrivalled.
the full 35mm sized chip is so good to get back to after a couple of years having all my lens's focal length @x1.6
the 300d has been getting rave reviews - same chip as the 1D. worth looking at as i can't see the 1Ds price dropping sharply as all the others have in the past.
as far a lenses go - if you can afford the canon ones do it. they are beautiful.
having said that, a mate of mine uses the sigma pro versions - seem to be just as sharp, but the speed of focus and build quality is not as good.

got you b500. it's the 2 tone purple and greeny/gold. could be the way our monitor is rendering the image.
as far as digital to repro goes. the problem is the repro houses passing the book and most photographers not knowing how it's gonna and should look.
i try and see all the stuff i take thro to repro for that very reason.
i love film don't get me wrong. but there is no reason why a digital image can't look superb when it comes to repro...

Thanks Skiddo,
Yep - I love the Canon lenses too - got a few already, including the 300mm f2.8 which is awesome! I've used Sigma lenses on my old Minolta body, but after seeing the results with my Canon gear, will stick to the Canon L series lenses - I'm extremely impressed by them!
Hmm - I have thought of the 300D as an interim measure, but don't think it's got enough manual control for my liking, plus it's not as well built as the other models. Might look at the 10D instead though...

Isn't that the truth. From the other side of the coin, trying to find a photographer who had successfully managed to migrate from film to digital is prooving very difficult.
I'm a graphic designer working on Antiques books and have for the past 2 yrs been producing an annual price-guide containing in excess of 8,000 digital images per book. The quality of photographs varies hugely.
I'm a firm believer in the use of digital photography, especially in publishing. If using the traditional processes you're just relying on the repro house to have someone operating their drum scanner who knows what they're doing.
Sorry, if this is a bit of a waffle, it's just a subject that I enjoy.

As Skiddo says, it can be the the repro house not being up to speed with colour management and then blaming the photographer which they have been happy to do as they have lost an awful lot of scanning business with the advent of digital photography, but it happens less these days.
I have been shooting, exclusively, digitally for repro for the past 4 years and wouldn't touch film with a barge pole now. If anyone is considering the 1ds don't compromise the camera by buying cheap lenses. To get the best out of digital only use 'L' Lenses and better still, only use prime lenses. Here is a link to to a review between the old 28-70 2.8L and it's replacement, the 24-70 2.8L. Interestingly he includes shots with 50 1.4, not even an L lens and it's another level of detail and sharpness:

If you are really serious on squeezing every drop of quality from this camera I would also budget another £400 on Capture One DSLR software from Phase One, only shoot raw and process through C1DSLR. The Canon software is total cr@p. There is a review here:
www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1ds/page19.asp
The only negative things to say about the 1ds is dust. When you stop down the lens it can be a nightmare, so you will need to sort out a cleaning regime. You can also get chromatic aberration on the edges of shots when using very wide angle lenses.
HTH
Well, that' hijacked the thread nicely
