A snob is someone who adopts the worldview of snobbery – that some people are inherently inferior to him or her for any one of a variety of reasons, including real or supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, etc. Often, the form of snobbery reflects the snob's personal attributes. For example, a common snobbery of the affluent is the affectation that wealth is either the cause or result of superiority, or both, and a common snobbery of the physically attractive is that beauty is paramount.

That'll be one of my mates then!
Not a question of standards, I'd say; we all differ, and many so-called 'standards' were merely inventions of the aspiring middle classes 'a la' Hyacinth Bucket.
I'd say a snob is someone who looks down on social groups that he considers beneath him. Bigotry, really. An 'inverted snob' is still a snob. (Just one without any class, normally

Yep. A snob is simply a bigot.
However - most people who are called a snob aren't. They are simply victims of bigotry themselves.
e.g. He's a right snob. Talks all la-di-da. Never drinks with the lads.
Translation: He's had a decent education and prefers to get home to his nubile, young wife who everyone would like to f***

I've noticed the definition of this seems to be changing over the last couple of years.
Now, most people see a snob as someone who lives in a nice area of town, drives a nice car, etc.
However it used to be acknowledged that a snob was someone who thought they were better than them less successful than them.
I stick with believing that the latter is the definition of a snob.

There is no such thing as a snob.
There are merely those who do things properly and everyone else.
Never met a Hyacinth Bucket? There are merely those who do things properly and everyone else.
