I did the 200 mile or so trip down to Devon last weekend at a reasonably enthusiastic rate and only used about half a tank of petrol. Couldn't believe it - I reckon my brick-like, somewhat overweight 1.6 Focus would have used at least as much fuel to cover it in the same time.

As a bonus I even managed to get my OH into the car which was a step forward after she recently vowed never to step in it again!

I couldn't believe how little fuel my S used on its last continental trip.

Of course, it did do the final leg on the back of a low loader...

Looking at my mileage spreadsheet the most I've done between fill ups is 280miles, that then took 47litres to fill the tank again.

Latest calculation is showing I'm getting 23.56mpg

To be fair it was absolutely brimmed before we set off and I don't know how linear the fuel gauge is (although it appears to be reliable from what I've seen), but I was gobsmacked. I think that was over 30mpg thanks to cool night air, a reasonably fixed cruising speed and keeping the hood up (to coax the girlfriend in).

Sounds like you need to get it on a rolling road to get it set up properly - obviously something wrong if you're getting 30mpg hehe

To be fair that's a fixed low-throttle cruise and I kept it below about 0.9 leptons. On track the consumption is somewhat higher. wink

With the lowish mileage most S owners do they are probably more eco friendly than the Prius (which is a hideous carbuncle anyway)
Cheers.....Tony..

The unmarked police 5-Series on the A303 begged to differ.

Of course mine does get used quite regularly, and indeed enthusiastically, it may well be they respond better to that than garage duty. wink

Chris - did you come through Dorset at all, as you don't mention it.

Any pics taken in my fair county?

Only on the way through. Actually I tell a lie, I went over to see my grandmother in Lyme at one stage too, so it was parked in Dorset for a bit. wink

The photos are all Devon though...

Specifically one at home, a couple over at Shute Barton and Shute Common, and a couple on the beach at Axmouth.
