Hi all,

I'm currently studying for my ACCA and have some experience working in accounts.

I have been looking for a job since April but have had no such luck yet.

I have signed up with the main finance agencies, like Michael Page etc.

Has anyone have any good recommendations for agencies?

Many thanks

Jatinder

Hi

What I would suggest is apply, apply, apply. You need to get your foot in the door somewhere and start getting experience - this is what I would be looking for, just exams alone won't cut it I'm afraid.

There's an awful lot of accountancy graduates who get so many exemptions from ACCA that, IMO, PQ ACCA isn't worth much. To be honest in many respects I would prefer AAT with experience rather than ACCA without.

The big benefit of ACCA is its flexibility - whilst hunting around for jobs keep your hand in helping friends/family with bookkeeping. It all helps with experience, plus you may be able to use them as a reference in future. A word of warning though - you can help other people with bookkeeping, you can't legally sign off accounts until you're qualified and hold a practising certificate.

Good luck

Keep badgering the agencies - keep in contact and keep updating them with what you're doing. Build a good relationship with them.

Contact everyone in the Yellow Pages in your area and see if they'll have a look at your CV - you never know you might just be the person they need.

Keep at it.

ETA: You've only been looking for a month! It took me 4 months to find even the most basic of jobs - but one job leads to another which will lead to another.

Cheers for the advise guys, I know I have only been looking for a month.

It's just my role came to an unexpected end. I had a contract agreed till the end of April. It had been renewed on a month by month basis since September

I had a new manager start that really didn't like me and forced me out.

Hence I'm desperate

I might scan the yellow pages and see if anyone’s hiring there or offer to work for free.

Because I'm sitting here doing nothing.

Hunt the websites of your local public sector organisations. Most usually have jobs, most avoid agencies.
Worth having a look at the public finance website too.

The head office in edinburgh seems to be the only place where there are accountants. Sorry. Why dont you sign up to S1 jobs, iv seen plenty of accounts jobs pop up requiring people with your talent wink

Mate, set yoursef up on Citijobs.co.uk. Thousands of jobs on there, and a lot of recruiters look on there too.
Do you know specifically what you want to do?
