Just wonder how often do you wax your PJ, I wax it pretty much every time I wash the car. I was told that you are not supposed to wax it so often, is it true? I thought waxing is just putting a layer of protection onto the body work.

Nothing wrong with waxing it everytime you wash there is a point where you can't make the car any more shiny but the protection is there. Obviously if after washing you're starting to get swirl marks you'll need to go back to basics to remove the swirls and then the wax needs to come off but then the process starts again.

every 2-3 months give it a propper polish, inbetween use the Meguires detailing mist to help keep the water beading up and stop the dirt sticking

If i have time, wax every time, full meguairs treatment every few months...

waxing protects, only polish 'cuts' back the paint work, and even then - im not convinced it REALLY does, i think if your mopping and machine poloshing then yes, fair enough, but hand polish? maybe but unlikely?!

Wash mine every week and put a layer or 2 of wax on after its bath.....more layers of wax the deeper the shine, no harm done.....dont polish at all.

Based on this I think I should be washing mine a bit more often.

When I lived in Newcastle, and the car lived outside twice a week. Now once amonth or so, but the car lives in a garage and doesn't get out much due to the purchase of an Elise.

Mine are washed and waxed when they come out of storage in the spring (late March, early April). Then a washing every week or two for the summer. Just before putting them away for the winter, they're waxed again, (late October, early November). Works for me. Cars are garage kept during driving season, and under car covers for the most part when in the garage. Also covered when in storage.

I bought some car shampoo with wax in it. Never thought it would do anything but after I've washed the car and dried it with a shammy it looks fabulous. ( i bought wax at the same time but have not needed to use it yet. I try and wash mone once a week - which I use as another excuse to dry it off "with a quick drive".

The west mids and warks TVR section went to Meguiars a month a go to lean about what to do.

They state was the car every two months max! and that is if your car is left outside. You will not be doing it any damage doing it more often but you will be wasting your time and it is in their interest to ask you to do it more often.

I was also amazed how little wax they put on, they state any more is also a waste of time.

Washed (2 bucket method) and dried after use.

Polished twice since September, waxed twice.

Best to keep on top of things, a decent polish and wax, and a wash and dry will be sufficient for ages.
