Here's one for the pros. Can anyone name this movie?

When I was a kid (in the '80s), I saw a movie, a comedy, about two friends in Europe, on holiday, I think, who somehow accidentally got tied up in some or other espionage or organised crime plot. I think they were mistaken for spies or something. Anyway in one particular scene, they need a car and spot a Ferrari that has just been parked with the keys left in the ignition. So they decide to steal it. The one then asks the other if he's sure he knows how to drive a car like this. The other says "sure, it's like any other car. You put the clutch in, select first gear, let the clutch out and..." and the car vanishes out of shot stupidly quickly. From that point on, cue ridiculously accelerated footage of this red Ferrari zipping down various roads and blowing everything else into the scenery - literally. Including one cyclist, who gets blown into the bushes as the car flies past him.

Those are the facts I remember. The Ferrari was a small mid engined one, I'm sure, so it was either a 308 / 328 or could have been a Mondial.. but then perhaps my memory is bad and it was a Dino..

I also can't remember who the actors were!

I cannot remember what the movie was called despite plenty of searching for clues over the last dozen or more years. Does this scene sound familiar to any of you and can anyone tell me what movie it comes from?

For some reason I keep thinking of Richard Grieco and or Robert Downey Jr when I read your plot line but I've looked on IMDB and can't seem to find anything too match it yet!

Yeah I've really struggled. I've even found internet lists of cars used in movies and haven't been able to match any back to this movie.

I'm almost certain it wasn't Richard Grieco, though I do remember him being mistaken for a spy in Teen Agent and been given a nice red Esprit SE, which he then raced all over the French countryside in. I think that movie also had a different name in some countries though. It wasn't called Teen Agent everywhere. A bit like Leon, which was called "The Professional" the first time I saw it.

I also think the actors in the movie I am thinking of were not, um, brat pack I guess. They were middle aged men, I'm pretty sure.

It's Teen Agent (yet I couldn't see it on his film profile) I must have been thinking of! I will ask hubby he seems to have a photographic memory when it comes to films he's seen!!

ETA It's called If Looks Could Kill and was made 1991. Too late, so can definitely be ruled out!

Part one of the whole film ripped to You Tube. Maybe it will jog your memory?

Trace smile

Edited to add: Ooh, it's really bad, no not in a good/bad way either!

Go to IMCDb it's a site where you can put in the make and model of the car and it will tell you what films it has been in. May be worth a go!

I'll give IMDB a go on a car search as suggested. Thanks for the links! It's definitely not Teen Agent. I know two friends got in the car, they stole it, and I'm 95% sure it was a 308 / 328. I'm also certain that the shot when they initially pull away was an overhead view of the car, which exited stage right impossibly quickly from a standing start, with no tire squealing or smoke. Just a parked car "drop the clutch and.." vroom, and an empty parking bay.
