Cracked rear vinyl window
Discussion
Just got back yesterday for the Old Warden Classic car show was being brave had the top down even though a bit chilly when I got home didn't give it any thought raised the back section and the rear window cracked about 2" in length. Question is can the vinyl only be replaced or am I looking for a complete new rear section. If I have to replace the rear section might as well get the Targas done at the same time does anyone know a good place to get this done in the Cambridgeshire area. Cheers Aljen
Depending on whether you are wanting a professional repair or if you just want to keep the water out this may be of interest...

sounds like the same split as I had and my repair has held well since doing this

Another rec. for A & R Pound at Baldock. They should offer you the most cost effective hood repair option. Although I would say that the outfit is quite small and the back yard has a bit of passing traffic (next to Tescos) so you might want to take sarnies and some reading matter if you have to wait.

Little while ago these guys, www.thehoodguys.co.uk quoted about £80 to replace window if I removed/refitted hood. At the time had more important things to spend money on and judging by the amount of glue involved had doubts if hood would come off and go back on ok, anyone done this ?
looking at the some what cheaper "shoe glue" option, don't suppose any of you chaps have a piece off scrap window I could cut a patch from ?

Mines having a new section stitched in over the next couple of days; about 80 quid I think the quote was, (sorry, being done in Cornwall by the same guy that did my brother's Griff). Half a dozen bolts inside the boot which can be a right pain to undo (10mm spanner works ok, but is fiddly..) then the whole of the back section should lift off, (once you undo the bolts retaining the hoop). Fairly straightforward job..
I'd been looking at getting a zip in section - bit like early MX5s but don't really think its worth the hassle. A zip will be a weak point and may leak and would need to be made up bespoke. The plastic on mine has lasted 18 years so far, so I don't think its a major chore. Only advice to top cracks is to make sure the lid is warm when you fold it, (don't fold it when iced over that killed the lid on the olf V6 I had) and if you are really worried, fold a towel into the hood as you drop it - stops the plastic fiolding in on itself so tightly..

So you don't have to un'stitch it then? How do you get the window off the hood?(also, how far down into Kernow is the chap who's repairing it? I'm in Devon so not too far!)I'd been looking at getting a zip in section - bit like early MX5s but don't really think its worth the hassle. Hi I went to A R Pound today he quoted me £120 this is removing the hood from the hoops (peeling canvas away from the glue) fitting a new window and regluing about a days work. He can't do it before August so will look for a temporary solution till then. Tried finding vinyl weld but couldn't find any there is something in Halfords called plastic glue which is supposed to work on vinyl as well may try that. Cheers Aljen
