Ok have just dropped the car down to Fernhurst and they have told me that the outriggers are not even MOT-worthy. Surprised me a little as I was under it with a screwdriver only a month ago and couldn't poke any holes in it but at the same time I do know that the bottom half of the tube only tells one side of the story.

Apparantly the worst part is the front nearside corner (with the remainder being MOT-able). However I think that I may just get the lot done

They quoted me £960 per side plus VAT plus £500 for the extra work to deal with the fact that it has a rollcage (which inevitably is bolted to the outriggers).

I have done a little searching and that seems a bit steep but can anyone here tell me where they have had it done recently and how much it cost?

Whilst I would love to do it myself frankly I don't have the facilities or the time so am happy to pay for someone else to get their hands dirty but when the bill is pushing on towards £3k I was hoping that others had some experience.

On top of this I can see that the remainder of the chassis is fine and I don't really want to travel too far (car is based in Guildford and too far constitutes a three hour drive). Unfortunately this rules out the TrackvRoad solution in the latest issue of Sprint

So any ideas on the latest and hottest solutions guys and gals?

if you want to repair them in situ, and for a fraction of the price go to top gear auto centre in Walthamstow. They do loads of chims grifs etc, and they are very good.

Two solutions...
1. Sportmotive...... total replacement of all outriggers upto to the main chassis.... circa £1.5k IIRC inc VAT. (not sure how much roll cage issues are)

2. Offords..... cut out and weld in new bits... approx £500/corner dependant on how much work is req.

If you've got the money I personally would go with the Sportmotive... all done then no worries for following years.

edited to correct Sportmotive price... circa £1k to buy, & £500 to install.... my apologises

Might, be worth a phone call to Sportmotive to check the price, think they were offering outrigger replacement for less than £2,500, think it was more like £1,500. Might well be wrong, but worth a call to check. If they can do it for that price would probably be your best bet. Cheers. Simple.

+1 for Sportmotive.

It may be a bit of a trek for you, but the quality and price is worth it - £1500 for both sides, inc vat, although some of the copper fuel lines may need to be replaced at the same time.

Mine was a 4 day turnaround last month, and I know I wont need to worry about them much now for the foreseeable.

Powers Bodyshop in Northampton is doing mine at the moment. Full body-off replacement of outriggers for around Sportmotive price, but includes full treatment of rest of chassis. Look at TVR news section for promo info. Took me 1.5 hours to drive from Guildford. Greg is really enthusiastic, and a great guy. The work I have seen looks spot on, and many have recommended him.

Think you're still within the 3 month promo period if you get your skates on. 01604 767 971.

I've got outrigger bills to look forward to over winter, my TVR man, 'TVR Autotune' is most likely getting the job, although he only really deals in full body off jobs, but he's sold me on the idea based on all the other 'little' jobs that can be done at the same time for minimal extra costs. wink

Just not sure how I'm going to convince him that Lupo headlights are a 'chassis related' little job. paperbag

But the intitial bill does look like it's going to start with a 3 eek

And as for that place in Cambridgeshire? rofl I wouldn't even let them service my lawnmower, let alone my TVR. I'm sure if you do a search on them you will find out plenty about the quality of their work. I've heard they do some high quality exhaust mods as well?
eek I'm really hoping that you don't think Northampton is in Cambridgeshire... PM me if necessary?

Another vote for Powersbodyshop in Northampton. My griff is currently in for the body off outrigger replacement.
The best way to do it IMHO.

Speak to Greg at the powerbodyshop regarding the price. It is significantly less than this figure.

I've just replaced the outriggers on a Chim using the 2" body lift technique. I have a 2 post lift so I thought it would be an easy job. It is anything but easy. I'd jump at any deal in future from a well known TVR specialist who could provide a replacement for £1500 - it's a bargain!

My car's with 'em at this moment; the body is off and it should all be back together this time next week ready for some paintwork. I promised some shots of the work (in Mooses Test Monkey thread) when I have it back at the end of the month.

They may still be offering the job at £995 + VAT but dunno; it aint making them money.
