Just stumbled across a rendition of our TVR Sagaris race car in Forza Motorsport 2 - a driving game for the XBox.

I had no idea that it was possible for people to copy a livery onto a car in the game - it looks fabulous:

Its amazing to see something you built in real life appear in a video game! I'm trying to contact the guy that did it so that we can have a video game version of the car in the awning - it must have been a huge amount of work!

Andy,

Not too hard to do.

Pop in here Games Forum and ask away. It may well have been someone in there.

Unlikely he's on PH as I imagine he'll be Seattle based.

And I can well imagine what that mail relates to...

Edited to add: The car does look great though!

I've found the chap who did it - he's actually in London. Message sent so hopefully we can get the car/livery/paint/programme or whatever the correct terminology is!

Perhaps its my age - I grew up on Space Invaders and Asteroids - but when I see a representation of my car in a 'proper' game I'm impressed!

Be nice if it sounded like your car, too. I think one of the owners of my old car had it sound-recorded for a game.

Awesome. I remember I once found a guy on another forum using a pic of my car as an avatar. I was so proud!

Ask them how much they're going to pay you in royalties for the unauthorised use of the image...

From someone who thought video games would never ever be bettered when Defender was launched....
This stuff is tantamount to Voodoo !
Must be fascinating to see your own car this way.

It'll probably be a kid who has mocked it up and uploaded it into the online game.

My son used to do this often, somewhere on one of these racing games is my Raspberry Cerb with my own company branding on it (not in real life); he sold them to friends for credits to buy online car performance upgrades.

Yep, time to renegotiate their contract, due to the extra exposure lick

Andy - you have to post your lap times on the circuits. We want to see if we can beat you.

Talking of which, can he redo the graphics to get your latest stickers on? smile

To keep it in perspective - Forza allows you to add custom livery to the cars. This is obviously what he's done as, whilst the Sagaris is a 'standard' car in the game - the livery is not.

That said, liveried cars are bought and sold via the Forza auction system (sounds mad doesn't it), so whilst the car exists 'in the game' it may only do so for a handful of people (or even just the originator of the livery) and so doesn't get seen by the 3,456,436,234,779 people who play it smile

Good job and exposure either way though!

Of course, if Forza adopt it as a racecar livery for the boxed game (as they have for lots of GT/LMP cars) - that's a whole different ballgame!

No it's not, as long as the image the graphic was created from is in the public domain ie not a copyrighted image then they can do what they want with it royalty free.

I think the point Stig was making is that if it is adopted into the game then it's a whole different ballgame in terms of the exposure achieved, and therefore the value Andy is able to bring to his sponsors.

Yes he can, and has already offered to do so.

I'm well aware that this is something done by an individual and not the producers of the game.

As I mentioned, I was previously unaware that there was a facility to create liveries in the game, and to trade cars and liveries. I am pleased that someone was impressed enough by the car and livery that they spent the time to recreate it.

There is also an X Box online forum for this game and there is a specific section on liveries and copies of real liveries, with competitions for the best ones. The IMR car won livery of the week when produced, which is even more pleasing.

The guys from IMR are chuffed to see 'their' car in a game, and we have a copy of the game which kids of guests can play in the awning at race meetings. To me that's all good....

Sponsorship is all about keeping sponsors happy, and this made IMR happy
