So I'm taking the plunge and getting the 450D from JL tonight! Well excited

I want to get some parts ordered ASAP.

Amazon have a "bundle" as below, all for £38.87

UV Filter - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006H2F...
Circular Polarizing Filter - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006H2E...
4GB Ultra 3 SD - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000QUUFR...

Plus the Canon Gadget bag
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Custom-Gadget-Bag-10...

In a month I'll get a timer remote and a tripod too.

What do you think to the parts? Need I spend more?

I'd rather go for a Lowepro bag (or other similar makes) rather than the Canon one. Although I don't know much about this bag (or any of the Canon bags), there's something about advertising to the public that you have a Canon. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I have read the thieves tend to target this as they know exactly what's inside the bag.

The guy in the camera shop said the same thing. Theifs are either going to know that a lowepro bag is for cameras or will just swipe it as they have nothing to lose!

I'm not sure if they care if its a canon or not, as long as it can be sold...

If money is tight, I'd probably go for the tripod first out of that lot, as it will let you get a far wider range of shots. Remember to switch the IS off on your kit lens if you use it on a tripod.

The remote shutter release is nice to have, but isn't really essential. You can set the camera to a 2 second timer delay and then just use it as normal. It can be slightly frustrating, but it does work!

I bought a tool bag from halfords - a bit like a doctors bag. It has a zip from one end to the other across the middle & the side fold down a bit when open. Lots of side pockets.

I also have a Lowepro for the camera & lens & it will all fit in the halfords one.

I'd personally agree that a tripod is a bigger priority than filters. (But I don't like filters much anyway, just a couple of extra surfaces to collect dust, add flare et cetera.)

A tripod is a good move when you want to really take your photography skills a notch forward. makes you slow down and think about things and aids your composition, with the added bonus that your results will be noticeably sharper when you get it all together.
