£££ Insurance vs Windscreen £££
Discussion
£75 insurance excess for windscreen replacement via Adrian Flux...cool...no problem then, just book in AutoGlass to pop by and put a new 'un in, show them the Insurnace Certificate and hand over £75... job done right?
Wrong..
The Insurer I was with via Adrian Flux didn't reconise AutoGlass as a recognised supplier...so the excess rose to £100...it was in the small print apparently... oh and sorry but you'll have to pay the full cost of the windscreen and claim the dfference between that and the new excess back from the insurer...
£757.... £757....
and now I have to wait...to get £657 back...
anyone have this happen to them? I mean hands up I dind't read small print... but AutoGlass FFS...not recognised ??

I booked via my broker, who told me which fitting company I had to go with if I was to follow the normal process ...
All the best with getting the cost back from the insurance company. (I was also told by my broker that if I went this route then it would count as a 'Claim' against my insurance, and thus my NCD would be affected. I sincerely hope this isn't the case for you ... )
Oli.

Never get it fitted first then ask the insurer, just do it straight through their windscreen number. I found out that I wasn't covered so I called autoglass and was quoted £400 for a windscreen on a '93 corsa that I'm doing for charity!! It's more than the car's worth.
'Flux have probably stopped going to them because they rip them off. I called around and a guy came round and fitted one for £80 with nothing to do with the insurance, other quotes were around £120, still much lower than the first one.

I reckon there is a scam going on with the chip repair service from a certain well known Auto Glass company. They came out to my 5 series, said I need to sign a disclaimer to cover them in case the chip becomes a crack when they start to carry out the repair. I asked what the probability was & was told about 2%. Well, surprise surprise, within 3 minutes I get called back to the car to be shown a crack in the windscreen. Clearly then I have no option but to replace thus having to pay an excess. Even more to the point the glass oompany get to fit a brand new 5 series screen (can you imagine the profit in that compared to doing a tiddly repair). I seriously wonder how many repairs end up reulting in a replacement screen - could be a major scam
Autoglass quoted me £3.5k for the screen, plus fitting and other crap. Insurance pays (£60 cost to me) but there you go.
F355 before you ask.
Ferrari Indy quoting me about £1.5k for the screen, plus fitting etc. I called the insurer to ask them if I could use the indy and they said sure, but you'll have to pay upfront and claim, and my excess jumps to £100. Spent several calls trying to get them to see reason, all to no avail (ie, save them £2k cash if they would lower the excess to £60). So now you know where your premiums go...

I always find that windscreen companies initially pluck some random high figure out of the air and hope you won't question it. Had a screen replaced a year ago which was nothing special just a tinted band across the top, no heater elements etc. First quote was £455 + vat. That came down to £120 all in and they would pick the car up and drop it off (same company). I think they especially try it on with insurance companies and company vehicles as they must see them as a cash cow.

If you would like me to look into this then please PM me your Client Ref and when it is best to call you.
Dan.
I know its an old post and I've just joined but ive had trouble with Adrian Flux also...
I wanted to make a claim for a chip in the screen. I called them and told them the chip was there when I bought the van (rookie mistake)
"sorry we can't help you if it was already there".
"ok, so what if I rang and didn't lie but just left out that information - then if you inquired as to when it happened then I said, "I don't know"" (not lying).
" the call is recorded so we know now"
wow!
I know it's my mistake but I did not expect them to be so unhelpful.
I only just got my insurance so may cancel and be more discreet next time.
Adrian flux gets a thumbs down from me.
